Stardew Valley & More Indie Games Coming To Xbox Game Pass
Big indie game releases have been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, as Stardew Valley is confirmed to be coming to the subscription service this fall. This was revealed during Tuesday’s ID@Xbox Showcase, along with a number of other games, including Aragami 2 and Evil Genius 2: World Domination. This latest batch of reveals continues a very strong month for Xbox Game Pass announcements.
Xbox Game Pass is turning into Microsoft’s most effective response to the PlayStation 5’s popularity. The sheer level of content on offer for its asking price is unprecedented in the industry. That’s to say little of the high-profile Xbox Game Studios titles that will be coming to the service in the future, including Halo Infinite. On the same day as the ID@Xbox Showcase, six games have joined the service, including Dirt 4, Dirt Rally, Dirt Rally 2.0, F1 2020, GRID, and Library of Ruina. The next major release will Humankind‘s day one Xbox Game Pass PC launch, coming August 17.
Stardew Valley is another strong addition to Xbox Game Pass, and it could add a lot of value to the subscription for fans and those who have yet to experience the game but still want to. Stardew Valley has near-endless replayability and is often considered one of the most expansive games in the farming life sim genre.

Genesis Noir Is Xbox Game Pass’ Most Stylish Offering
Genesis Noir is one of the best Xbox Game Pass indie games currently available, thanks to its beautifully jazzy style and surreal visuals.
Xbox Game Pass is a great place to discover games that don’t garner weeks of headlines or tons of attention on Twitch. Microsoft has curated a collection that offers both huge blockbusters and with surprising levels of quality. No Game Pass game currently exemplifies the latter more than Genesis Noir, a point-and-click adventure from developer Feral Cat Den that defies much of what players might expect from its genre and from video game graphics. It’s a game where style takes precedence over all else, but that overwhelming artistic vision makes Genesis Noir one of the best ways to spend an afternoon for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
Players play as No Man, a typical noir detective-type transfixed onto a cosmic cityscape. His mission: Save love interest Miss Mass by stopping the Big Bang that created the universe. In order to do this, No Man must traverse several planes of existence that seem to blend together at the slightest push of a button. Every new scene features things like the walls of a building flattening out into a grassy field or a room slowly ripping itself apart into a new environment. These amazing transitions express the loose nature of existence before time and space, and it’s impressive the developer could capture such a feeling in the often simple adventure genre.

Xbox Game Pass’ Genesis Noir Nails Its Unique Atmosphere
Those looking for a tight, gameplay-focused experience won’t find one in Genesis Noir, as critics have fairly pointed out. However, that’s perfectly fine for a campaign that runs only a few hours and succeeds most at setting a vibe. Genesis Noir wouldn’t feel out of place as an art installation in museums the gameplay, while functional, is less important than its environments, characters, and trippy visuals. Still, having it widely available as a counterpoint to Madden and Halo on Microsoft’s subscription service has its value, too.
Playing through Genesis Noir is like interacting with one of the animated shorts accompanying Pixar movies. It features simplistic characters telling a story in a world that’s overflowing with style. It’s the type of release that’s hard to pin down simply because it’s trying something so unique, which is why its release on Game Pass is great for its developer and players alike. Here’s hoping more artistic experiences like it get to premiere in front of millions of subscribers and forgo worries about launch-day profits. Games like Genesis Noir prove the medium can produce fine works of art, and Xbox Game Pass provides a business model to support them.

Wolfenstein: The New Order
- X|S Enhanced: No
- File Size: 44 GB
Looking at screenshots of Wolfenstein: The New Order, it would be easy to mistake it for a modern-day retreading of the 1980s corridor shooters its predecessors popularized. However, The New Order set the stage for a 21st-century version of Wolfenstein that lives up its lineage and forges a new path for the series. It matches the smooth gunplay id Software fans expect with a dusting of RPG tropes , and the whole package comes together exceptionally well. The WWII alternate history narrative expertly switches between the ultra-violence and bombast id Software is known for and somehow manages to tie into an emotional core with a beautifully drawn cast of characters. The latest series of Wolfenstein games are easily some of the best single-player first-person shooters available today, and The New Order is the best place to start.

Its one of the best possible times to jump in, especially if you have a Series X that can take advantage of the real-world scenery.

Best Overall: The Witness
Welcome to a deserted island filled with hundreds of puzzles settled into a beautiful world. The Witness is all about solving 2D grid-based puzzles, and each one is a 2D representation of a grid map. You’ll use a variety of different methods to solve them, and while things start quite easy, they don’t stay that way. In the early game, puzzles might be solved within minutes, while down the line, you could spend an hour or more to solve one of them.
While the puzzles are all 2D grids, the rest of the world in The Witness is gorgeous. The island looks and feels alive with color and foliage from vivid greens, vibrant oranges, bright blues and deep browns depending on where you are. There are several different biomes that you’ll explore as you complete puzzles, and each one looks as great as the last. This is a super realistic game in terms of graphics, and the textures aren’t always super smooth, but it doesn’t detract from the art style as you play.
The one thing that The Witness lacks is a cohesive narrative. It’s a game about solving puzzles and doesn’t try to cram in more than that. You won’t find much aside from a few hidden audio files. While some gamers might not like this, it works very well to keep you focused on the 400 puzzles you’ll need to solve.
Dragon Quest Xi S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age Definitive Edition

Dragon Quest XI follows a silent protagonist and his band of merry friends as they explore impressive vistas and small towns in a typical JRPG fashion. Unlike the modern Final Fantasy games, Echoes of an Elusive Age sticks to the traditional turn-based battles of yesteryear. Yes, Dragon Quest XI is still an aggressively traditional JRPG, but that doesn’t stop it from being a first-class game and a must for any fans of the genre. Square Enix has been iterating on the Dragon Quest formula for three decades, and it shows. It’s hard to imagine a more polished and complete package than Dragon Quest XI. Read our review here.

You Need To Play The Best Puzzle Game Since Tetris On Xbox Game Pass Asap
Peggle 2 is one of the best puzzle games on Xbox.
Tetris is the best puzzle game of all time, but Peggle 2 comes pretty darn close.
Despite how popular and accessible the puzzle genre is, itâs a hard genre to stand out it. Puzzles represent perhaps the single oldest kind of âgame.â Itâs therefore hard to stand out with a special puzzle game idea that feels both familiar and fresh.
Tetrishas thrived thanks to its easy-to-understand but highly addictive block-stacking and line-clearing gameplay. Another one is much more underrated, but just as good: Peggle 2. Taking inspiration from pinball and pachinko machines, EA and PopCap games created one of the best puzzle gameâs ever in the early 2010s.
Itâs included in your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, so you need to give it a shot if you havenât yet.
The goal of Peggle is simple. You have 10 balls you can shoot onto a board with 100 pegs, and you must hit and clear 25 orange pegs scattered across the board before you run out of balls. A moves back and forth of the bottom of the board, and if your ball lands in it you get another free ball to use.
For the magical unicorn Bjorn, the ability just gives you a better idea of where youâre shooting the ball as it shows its path. Other characters have abilities that can destroy, phase through, or push pegs around to help increase your point count and chances of winning.
Peggle 2 is available now on Xbox Game Pass.
Ori And The Blind Forest
Still one of the most visually impressive Metroidvanias out there, Ori and the Blind Forest continues to impress to this day. Told largely without dialogue, its a compelling story that doesnt intrude but instead acts as a nice companion to the overall gameplay loop. The real core of the title is the aforementioned gameplay itself, and because of that, it really is a lot of fun to play. The combat is rather simple, but its the traversal that makes the game really stand out.
Of course, like many other Metroidvania titles, youll be traversing back and forth between areas, unlocking new paths once youve gotten your new abilities. Theres also a number of really great set pieces that end up testing the various skills youve collected throughout the game, leading to intense sequences that more likely than not will have you replaying them to get it right. If you enjoy Ori and the Blind Forest, youll also have the sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, readily available to play on Game Pass right after you finish.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is a return to form for the series – a renaissance of survival-horror for consoles that we haven’t seen since the fourth game in the series back on the Nintendo GameCube.
It’s truly, viscerally scary in the best of ways, and its haunted-house setting is so gleefully disgusting that you never cease to marvel. If you have the stomach for horror, you’ll absolutely love it.
What Remains Of Edith Finch
