Ori And The Will Of The Wisps

Official Xbox App Walkthrough | Xbox Game Pass PC

After many delays, Ori and the Will of the Wisps released this year and I can truly say it was well worth the wait. Picking up after the events of the first title, Ori and the Blind Forest, Will of the Wisps follows Ori the Spirit Guardian on its journey to find Ku, the baby owl from the first title. After being blown off course into a new land. Ori must use its powers to restore the light thats been slowly receding into darkness.

Will of the Wisps is one of the best and prettiest Metroidvanias currently available. Developer Moon Studios successfully surpassed the world of the first game, allowing Ori to interact with the denizens of this new land. The backdrops are colorful and diverse and the music ties it all together. I found myself humming some of the tracks for days after I finished the game. The story is bittersweet, but its one that I highly recommend.

Initial Unveiling And Launch

Prior to the official unveiling, a rumor had circulated that the next Xbox console would be an “always on” system requiring a persistent Internet connection, though Microsoft had not confirmed this. This had drawn some concerns from consumers, which were heightened when employee Adam Orth stated in a message in April 2013 that said, “Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an ‘always on’ console…Every device now is ‘always on.’ That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit”. Orth’s message drew further ire towards Microsoft, with concerns about and practices against the sale of used games with an “always on” unit. Orth opted to leave Microsoft a few days later due to the backlash. Despite Microsoft’s statements following the situation, denying the rumors, the mood it created lingered over the next several months.

In response to these pre-launch changes and a belief that Microsoft’s initial decisions for the console were in poor judgement, journalists and consumers jokingly gave the Xbox One nicknames such as the “Xbox 180”, in reference to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s decision to reverse its controversial decisions, and “Xbone”, suggesting that the company was “” to consumers by making these changes.

Microsoft Announces New Improvements Coming To Xbox Game Pass And Xbox App For Pc

At gamescom 2019, Microsoft today announced several improvements coming to to Xbox Game Pass app and Xbox app for Windows PCs. These improvements will make it easy for gamers to find new games, manage their existing game collection, connect with other gamers and more. Read about the new features below.

Microsoft today also revealed new games coming to Xbox Game Pass, you can read about it from the source link below.

The Xbox App’s Quality Is Atrocious

Xbox Game Pass App für iOS und Android bekommt neues ...

The focal point of my issues with Xbox Game Pass for PC revolves around the Xbox app for Windows 10. It’s a marked improvement over the UWP “Xbox Companion App” of yesteryear, but that bar couldn’t possibly have been lower. Sadly, Microsoft’s pace of updates and improvements to the Xbox app on Windows 10 has crawled to a snail’s pace, and it’s becoming unacceptable.

The first issue with the Xbox app on Windows 10 is just plain ol’ speed. Microsoft: You’re competing with Steam and Discord for a lot of the features you’re offering here. Expecting users to accept the painfully slow, well, everything given that competition exists just a click or two away isn’t smart business.

You’d think that fewer features would lead to a more streamlined, speedier app. Apparently, that’s not the case.

Sending messages on Xbox Live through the Xbox app is a painfully slow experience. Right-clicking menus and general navigation is held up by the loading of assets from the web, which is just poor design. If I click on something, the action should be instantaneous, in all scenarios. The fact the Xbox app can’t offer this, while Steam, and even the Epic Games Store, can, is a big problem.

Seriously, what exactly is the intent here? You’d think that fewer features would lead to a more streamlined, speedier app. Apparently, that’s not the case. I was forgiving of the Xbox app when it launched, but it has since shed the tag long ago. Time to get serious about this stuff, I’d say, Microsoft.

Foundational Updates Are Coming Soon To Make Xbox Gaming Less Of A Hassle On Pc

As great as Xbox Game Pass can be, its tough to love the quirks and caveats that come with it on PC. Things can get real dicey when it comes to installing games or even just deleting them as part of the wider Xbox PC app and Microsoft Store experience.

Thankfully, new features are coming to the Xbox PC app in the near future, including the ability to change where your games are installed and actually access your files.

We had some legacy systems we were working with, Xboxs Jason Beaumont explained in a November PC Community Update video posted today. We had UWP games and all this stuff around delivery and installation. We made some significant improvements to those systems. You know, they were leaving some challenges for PC gamers with just updating their apps, downloading, installing, and especially modding games.

The big new change for a lot of people: being able to install games on different Windows drives and also set the default folder. Another promise: faster download speeds.

Mod support has also been a recurring request, and its coming for many games within Xbox Game Pass. You can access local files, meaning you can move and edit game files. The Xbox PC app will say if a game supports mods with a note underneath its name.

These Xbox PC app updates will be available to Xbox Insiders first before a wide release.

Assuming everything works as intended, this is a good step. As in, one of many.

How To Download Xbox GAME PASS App for PC

In spring 2019, Microsoft brought one of its most profitable and critically acclaimed features to PC: Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass for PC is an all-you-can-eat subscription service that lets you dive into a library of more than 100 titles and enjoy discounts on game purchases. In fact, Xbox Game Studios titles appear on Game Pass the same day that they go on sale, so you can immediately dive into a hot title like Gears 5 or Minecraft Dungeons. So, how much does all this cost? The service costs just $1 for the first month before increasing to $9.99 per month.

Microsoft also offers Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a higher-tier subscription that includes everything in vanilla Game Pass for PC, plus access to more than 100 console games and Xbox Live Gold . However, this isn’t simply the tier for someone who owns both a PC and Xbox console. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers also gain exclusive access to Xbox’s excellent, cloud game streaming functionality, previously known as Project xCloud. With streaming, you can enjoy the most graphically demanding games on even the weakest laptops with a good enough internet connection. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate starts at $1 per month before increasing to $14.99 per month. Clearly, Microsofts long-term plan is to push as many players as possible to this service.

Game Pass subscribers receive discounts when buying games and add-ons. For a wider array of discounts, discounts that also contribute to charities, consider purchasing from Humble Bundle .

What Is Pc Game Pass

PC Game Pass is a monthly subscription service that offers a library of full games to download and play on your machine without any further fees.

The list of games is curated and updated each month, with some added and some less popular titles being removed. You just need to download the ones on offer and play as much as you like – as if you bought the game outright yourself.

The PC version of the service is exclusive to gamers running Windows 10 or above.

It is also available as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes over 300 Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. You also get access to Xbox’s Cloud Gaming service to stream games on mobile devices, PC and Xbox consoles, EA Play and Xbox Live Gold.

Next, its time to pick a Game Pass plan from the Xbox website. Depending on whether you own a PC or a PC and Xbox One, you may want to consider which Game Pass variant works best for you. There are two options for PC users: Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass for PC.

Game Pass Ultimate includes everything in Game Pass for PC, but also bundles in the console version of Game Pass , Xbox Live Gold, and various other perks like early access to new games. We even found a cheeky way to effectively turn a one-month Game Pass Ultimate into 36 months.

Game Pass for PC has fewer perks but most of them wont concern those who only play on PC, and its monthly price is just for $5/£4/AU$4.95 during the beta, then 9.99/£7.99/AU$10.95 a month whenever that ends. Game Pass Ultimate goes up to $14.99/£10.99/AU$15.95 a month after the first month, assuming you dont use the workaround we linked to above.

Once you pick your Game Pass membership in your browser, youll be asked to sign into your Microsoft account. Sign into the same account you used to sign into the Xbox Beta app, and follow the instructions to pay for your Game Pass.

Now that you have your Game Pass, go back to the Xbox Beta app, click Game Pass in the top menu, and you can start browsing all the Game Pass games. Dive in and enjoy!

Xbox Game Pass Pc Game Versions Are Often Worse

Perhaps the most annoying thing of all with Xbox Game Pass is the fact you’re often getting a sub-par experience when compared to Steam or Win32 versions on other storefronts. For whatever reason, whether it’s issues with the container system, or issues with the Microsoft Store certification process in general, games on Xbox Game Pass often just fail to live up to the same quality standards as competing versions.

The Ascent for example supports NVIDIA DLSS on Steam, but not on the Microsoft Store. This is probably something to do with the game being ported from the Xbox version to Xbox Game Pass for PC, but that doesn’t excuse the fact players on Xbox Game Pass for PC are ultimately getting a worse experience. I’ve also found bugs in various other games. Pillars of Eternity, for example, is completely broken on Xbox Game Pass for PC, with floating objects moving between screens. I’ve actually worked directly with Obsidian to get this fixed and troubleshot in the past, but the bug persists even to this day. The same bug does not exist on the Xbox or Steam versions of the game, which is intensely frustrating.

What Pc Game Pass Is Doing Right

What’s New in the Xbox App for PC | Xbox Game Pass

I dont want to disparage Microsoft. Over the past two years, Ive seen PC Game Pass grow from an extra perk on Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions to a platform worthy of its own subscription. Its fantastic, and I want to see Microsoft continue building on what its already doing right.

Most games used to only come to the console version, but now its rare to find a Game Pass title that isnt on PC as well. EA Play is a great addition, too, allowing you to play a massive list of EA games on PC without a separate subscription .

Microsoft has clearly focused on expanding Play Anywhere, too. Halo Infinite, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon are a few recent examples of games Ive played across console and PC through Play Anywhere. This is a great program, and it demonstrates that Microsoft knows what enthusiasts with both a console and PC want.

Issues with bugs, disorganization, and quality of life issues wont go away tomorrow. And right now, some games are still exclusive to console, plus theres a long list of titles that dont support Play Anywhere. The difference is that Microsoft is constantly improving on the game front.

For almost three years, Ive seen the same bugs and issues time and again. Im not asking Microsoft to fix the Xbox app tomorrow, just to put a foot forward to ship new features, fix long-standing issues, and make the app feel more like a destination for PC gaming. That would do more for the service than a rebrand.
