Day One Games Coming To Xbox Game Pass

Along with three Day One games announced already for January, Xbox Game Pass has also peppered the rest of the year with brand-new releases that subscribers will be able to access from the very first day. The rest of the year is just as full of Day One releases as the start, with titles such as Edge of Eternity, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and Weird West joining Xbox Game Pass as soon as they’re launched. Although older games can be just as exciting, as they give players a chance to experience old favorites again or to introduce new gamers to some of the classics, new titles are usually the big selling points for the service.

Day One releases are a huge plus point for Xbox Games Pass and can single it out above other subscription services, with gamers able to access brand-new games without any delays. For online multiplayer games, this is an advantage that cannot be understated, as players are able to join servers and experience a game from the first day. This means they can get valuable experience and practice before a large number of gamers have had a chance to jump in. Not only that, but many players just want to get their hands on titles as soon as they can, particularly for ones with long development cycles or highly anticipated games like Arkane Studios’ upcoming action-adventure multiplayer game Redfall.

Four Day One Xbox Game Pass Pc Games Being Announced At The Game Awards 2021

Xbox Game Pass keeps growing

Xbox has revealed that four games will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on PC in the future, and they will be announced at The Game Awards 2021. The announcement notes that these four games are day one releases, which means they’ll launch on Game Pass the same day that they are released.

On top of the four unannounced titles, there are several that are already confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass PC day one too:

Currently, it’s unknown whether the four titles are games that have already been publicly announced but not specifically for Xbox Game Pass PC or brand-new titles that haven’t been revealed yet. Either way, we’ll see them this week during the show. Be sure to know how to watch the Game Awards, as well as at what time and what to expect.

Usually, when the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account makes these sorts of announcements, there are hints buried within about what game could be added. However, this time around there was a game code hidden in the announcement. It said, “If you’re the first to edit this photo, congrats to you here’s a code.” Surely, someone must have redeemed it by now!

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The list of the best Star Wars games is remarkably small, despite the fact that games bearing the name have been releasing for decades. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order stands apart, though. Its the first Star Wars game in a long time thats concerned with being a good game, not just a licensed one. The result is a game thats thoroughly enjoyable for those who couldnt care less about Star Wars, but with enough fan service to keep franchise fans hooked.

When it comes to gameplay, Fallen Order is like Dark Souls light. It has tight swordplay, with tuned parrying and dodging mechanics. However, its clear Fallen Orders difficulty was tuned against the mainstream video game market, not against solely Dark Souls. Because of that, Fallen Order is an enjoyable romp for Souls-like fans while being accessible to genre newcomers.

Xbox Series Backwards Compatibility: What Are The Xbox Backwards Compatibility Improvements On Xbox Series X And Xbox Series S

As well as the above lists of supported Xbox One and original Xbox games, the Xbox Series consoles also offers backwards compatibility to Xbox One games and peripherals in what Microsoft describes as “our most powerful and compatible console ever”.

In a blog post in July 2020, Microsoft said: “It’s our intent for all Xbox One games that do not require Kinect to play on Xbox Series X at the launch of the console.”

Backwards compatible supported games on Xbox Series will benefit from several system-wide features:

As well as broad backwards compatibility support for Xbox One games, select Xbox One games will also see specific Xbox Series versions for free as part of the Xbox Smart Delivery system.

In November 2021, as part of Xbox’s 20th anniversary celebrations, over 70 new titles were added from the original Xbox and Xbox 360. These were confirmed to be the last backwards compatible games to be introduced on later Xbox consoles “due to licensing, legal and technical constraints”.

Xbox Game Pass Is Not Going Anywhere

Microsoft Games: Microsofts Big Game Pass Numbers Show Us ...

It is not a coincidence that the biggest trend of recent years has been membership platforms. I checked before writing this article, everything I get quality service almost works with subscription system. You already know the classics: Netflix, Spotify and Amazon Prime. Adobe Creative Cloud if you are a designer. If youre an editor, Shutterstock or its alternative is one of 35+ sites. Three meals a day if you are an office worker. You can even change your phone regularly by subscribing to Apple. In other words, Xbox Game Pass is a member of this trend, so its not going anywhere unless peoples usage habits change in a day.

All of Xboxs current plans are based on this platform. We dont have Xbox vs Playstation in our lives anymore. There are Microsoft games vs Playstation. Xbox no longer has to fight on the exclusive games front to sell more consoles. They can fight there whenever they wants. Their acquisition of Bethesda is an example of this. Of course, Microsoft didnt buy Bethesda to feed the Playstation library.

What Xbox Learned From Playstation And Whats Next

After just a few minutes chatting with Spencer, it becomes clear that hes not just a Microsoft executive he also genuinely loves to play games. He raved about recent favorites like Psychonauts 2, Deaths Door and The Artful Escape with a breathless enthusiasm, but he wasnt just trying to shill games on the Xbox platform.

Spencer also gave a shout-out to Amazons successful new online multiplayer game New World, and had high praise for the work that Nintendo and Sony are doing in general. So when we asked what he thought of the Xbox Series Xs direct rival in the PlayStation 5, its perhaps no surprise that Spencer sees Sonys console as a source of inspiration rather than just a competitor to beat.

I think Sony did a nice job with the PlayStation 5, says Spencer. What the fans and the notoriety of PlayStation teaches me is, having a dedicated focus on your customer, continuing to surprise and delight them over the years with great work, really builds a loyal fan base. And I see that in PlayStation. I want that in Xbox.

To many gamers and critics, PlayStations biggest strength is its library of beloved exclusive titles over the past decade or so, which include such massive franchises as Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War and Spider-Man. Its an area where Xbox has had plenty of room for improvement by comparison, and it appears that the company has been making big moves in recent years to address that criticism head-on.

New Super Lucky’s Tale

Game Pass Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, xCloud, PC

There’s something wonderful about Super Lucky’s Tale, a game that only really wants to be a beautiful old-fashioned 3D platformer that the whole family can have a go at. The cartoon worlds you visit are filled with invention and colour and simple pleasures, and the bosses keep things moving forward at a nice pace. Lucky’s one of those mascots who never really had his moment, but playing this – or the VR original – is a reminder that craft and good intentions offer many delights.
