Xbox Game App For Pc

When Two Become One

Official Xbox App Walkthrough | Xbox Game Pass PC

Microsoft’s platform unification means you only need to buy select games once to play them in multiple locations. The Xbox Play Anywhere initiative means that certain digital games you purchase are available for play on both PC and Xboxan excellent, inspired move by Microsoft. Your saves, DLC purchases, and achievements are available on both platforms, too.

Xbox Play Anywhere currently supports more than 70 games, including Killer Instinct and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. It’s a wonderful feature, one that we wish Sony would adopt for PlayStation Now.

If you own an Xbox One, you can stream any game from it to a PC on the same network. It works well, tooif you’re on a wired connection, that is. In our tests, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain stuttered a bit and suffered resolution dips when streamed via a wireless connection, but played near flawlessly over a wired connection. It’s not true PC gaming, as you need an Xbox One, but if you prefer to game on a laptop or desktop, it’s a nice way to bring more games to your Windows 10 setup.

As the app taps Xbox Live for online play, you can game with both PC and console playersand you don’t have to fork out money for an Xbox Live subscription for multiplayer gaming. We had a blast exchanging fists and feet with other Killer Instinct players.

This is not a drill: Xbox Game Streaming now works on Windows 10 PCs. I left my entire Windows 10 interface visible to prove that out.

  • As a duplicate of other working apps, this Win10 version also supports streaming from an existing Xbox console to a PC via your local network.

  • I didn’t grab a screen after installing, but the installation prompt basically looks like this.

  • Yep, that’s me, logging in to play a brand-new game via Xbox Game Streaming on my Win10 PC.

  • Available options mid-game, though you’ll need a mouse to access these.

  • A verbose network test? Sure thing, though it’s not being run on a smartphone.

  • Verbose deets! Yes, please.

  • The “offering ID” code you’ll need to access cloud streaming on Win10 machines.

  • Surprise: Xbox Game Streaming, the Stadia-like service that delivers over 200 games for a flat $15/mo rate, now works on Windows 10 PCs. The catch, for the time being, is that this Windows port is not officially out yet.

But the steps are simple and safe enough, as I’ve tested, to recommend it to anyone eager to test Xbox’s streaming option on their favorite Win10 laptop or desktopand to finally see how Xbox Game Streaming performs on wired Ethernet connections.

    How Does It Work

If you don’t own an Xbox console or have an account for it, the Xbox app can still serve as an intuitive and unified game launcher for you. You can link your accounts from various storefronts like Steam, Epic, or GOG, and it will seamlessly integrate with all of them. Its utility and functionality do expand if you have either one, though.

If you own a console, you get access to Xbox Live community features, as well as stream games straight from your PC. Use your smartphone as a remote control for when you’re consuming media. Speaking of, by utilizing the formerly called SmartGlass function, you’ll also be able to view content on multiple devices at once.

The Xbox app is now most commonly used for managing Xbox Live Game Pass accounts. Manage, discover, and play any game offered by the cloud gaming service from a single application. It’s still not the complete catalog, though. Some games found on the console-based store and even the Microsoft store are missing here. It also doesn’t include any Xbox 360 games in the list.

Microsoft’s 2022 New Year’s Resolution Should Be Fixing The Xbox App On Pc

Microsoft’s industry-dominating Xbox Game Pass service has given the Xbox platform a huge advantage over the past couple of years, drawing countless fans into the Xbox ecosystem with its gargantuan all-you-can-eat game buffet and an affordable monthly cost. As part of the company’s effort to directly branch out into the PC gaming space, Microsoft has also launched PC Game Pass, a PC version of Game Pass that offers the same benefits for people that prefer to play games on Windows.

Unfortunately, unlike the Xbox Game Pass experience on console, the PC Game Pass experience was very disappointing for quite some time. PC Game Pass just wasn’t good enough, as users were forced to deal with UWP app delivery issues that broke game installations, dependency on the slow, glitchy Windows 10 version of the Microsoft Store, an Xbox app that wasn’t much better, and exceptionally poor mod support.

The arrival of Windows 11 fixed a lot of these problems, and Microsoft also made the wise decision to move everything to the Xbox app on PC instead of splitting the PC Game Pass experience between it and the Microsoft Store one. However, there’s still one glaring flaw that Microsoft hasn’t addressed: the quality of the Xbox app on PC.

Data in each tab of the Xbox App often takes a painfully long time to load.

The Xbox app is slow, unreliable, and lacks the utility that PC gamers have come to expect.

The Xbox App Finally Lets You Choose Where To Install Your Pc Games

How To Download Xbox GAME PASS App for PC

Microsoft is finally updating the Xbox and Microsoft Store apps on Windows so you can specify a folder to install your games to. The change will be available soon to people who install the Xbox Insider Hub app and is expected to be in beta before the release of Halo Infinite on December 8, according to The Verge.

With the update, you’ll be able to choose a hard drive and a folder inside it as a location to install your game. Like any other program on your PC, you’ll be able to access the folders without Windows marking them as hidden, like it does currently with the WindowsApps folder.

The change removes the barriers Windows uses to prevent you from accessing your game files, which has kept people from installing and using mods. Some games currently allow mods, but they only allow you to access a dedicated mods folder. With this change, you’ll be able to install mods directly into your game files like you can do on Steam.

It’s unclear if the update to the Xbox and Microsoft Store app will fix an ongoing problem where Game Pass games won’t fully uninstall and clear up the space on your hard drive. Several users on Reddit and Resetera have reported this problem since 2019. With direct access to your files, you might be able to solve this problem by manually cleaning them out yourself.

In a video announcing the upcoming change, Microsoft also noted that downloading games will be faster through the app too.
