Xbox Game Pass January 2022 Games

Xbox Games Pass Ultimate Is What the Xbox Needs – IGN Daily Fix
  • Gorogoa – January 4
  • Mass Effect: Legendary Edition – January 6
  • Outer Wilds – January 6
  • Nobody Saves the World – January 18
  • Pupperazzi – January 20
  • Rainbow Six Extraction – January 20
  • Windjammers 2 – January 20

These three games are really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new Xbox Game Pass games for January 2022, however. Xbox Game Pass subscribers have a lot more to look forward to later in the month, with Spelunky 2 and early access co-op shooter The Anacrusis dropping on January 13. Then January 18 will see the release of day one Xbox Game Pass game Nobody Saves the World, which is an action-RPG from celebrated developer Drinkbox Studios, best known for its acclaimed Guacamelee games.

Then January 20 will be another big drop for Xbox Game Pass, with three more games being added that day alone, and all three day one Xbox Game Pass titles. On January 20, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to checking out day one games Pupperazzi and Windjammers 2, as well as Rainbow Six Extraction. Rainbow Six Extraction is arguably the first big new video game release of the year, and so it being part of Xbox Game Pass is definitely a big deal.

In the meantime, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can check out the games that have already been added to the service in January 2022, which includes the titles released today as well as games like puzzle game Gorogoa and platformers Olija and The Pedestrian.

The Game Pass Ultimate Difference: Breadth And Depth

For its intended purpose, Microsoft has unmatched advantages over competitors for several reasons. The company has a long history in gaming — Microsoft Flight Simulator launched 40 years ago and the Xbox 20 years ago — and it owns the DirectX graphics programming interface used by both Windows and its Xbox consoles. It has well-established game development studios and gobbles up more independent studios every year, plus it has relationships with every important game developer. And it operates a huge network of state-of-the-art data centers optimized for serving cloud applications: Xbox Cloud Gaming is as much about Azure as it is about fun.

The key here is “intended purpose,” because XGPU is only one of our two cloud-gaming Editors’ Choice Awards: The other is Nvidia GeForce Now. XGPU is great if you don’t already have a big library of games or if you want to play them on any device, making it a good choice for almost anyone. GeForce Now is great if you already have a big library of PC games and want to play them on any device at high quality and frame rates, making it a good choice for more veteran gamers.

The two complement each other more than they compete, and they require the least adaptation work for developers, ensuring fast growth in the numbers of supported games. It probably takes longer to get the licensing agreements signed than to ready a game for either service.

Xbox Cloud Gaming lets you take your Game Pass games to other devices.

What Is Xbox Game Pass

Forza is one of Xboxs most consistently excellent first-party series.

Game Pass is the new cornerstone of Microsofts gaming business, not just on Xbox consoles but also on PC and mobile devices. For a single monthly subscription fee , players get access to a large library of console and PC games, exclusive discounts, and various deals and perks.

Where it gets a little tricky is in looking at the three different plans and deciding which one, if any, makes sense for you. Xbox Game Pass for Console will run you $9.99 a month, and offers launch-day access to all Xbox Game Studios titles on consoles, numerous other games, and member discounts. If youre only playing on PC, Game Pass for PC costs $9.99 a month and includes all the same perks as the console planplus the EA Play catalog, which is a considerable value.

What Does Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Include

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate debuts as Microsoft’s new all-inclusive subscription for gaming, bundling leading Xbox subscriptions at a discounted rate. Comprised of three high-value memberships spanning Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs, it presents sizeable savings over purchasing each separately.

Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One proposes a Netflix-style service, packing over 100 standalone titles for a flat monthly fee. Its ever-rotating library has garnered deserved attention, with a diverse lineup of blockbusters and indies and new additions every month. Microsoft-published titles all permanently reside on the service too, covering Halo, Gears of War, and Forza titles at launch. While ideal to kickstart a library for new Xbox users, day-one inclusion of Microsoft flagships also presents value for veterans.

Unveiled at E3 2019 in June, Xbox Game Pass has also expanded to PC under a separate monthly subscription. Built on shared values to the Xbox One service, it packs over 100 games for Windows 10 PCs via the integrated Microsoft Store. Top Xbox franchises hit the PC service on launch day, alongside a worthy compilation of third-party properties. Extending to a new crowd of gamers, it’s ideal for those who game on Microsoft’s latest PC operating system.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: What Is It

Get 6 Months Of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate For Just $45!

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the combination of two services offered to gamers by Xbox: Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. You’ll get both services for one monthly fee rather than paying out for the two modes separately, which will save you money and hassle.

Game Pass is the bit that gives you access to Microsoft’s bulging library of games across the history of the console. A huge list of games will become free for you to download and play at any time, with no limits to what you download or how much you play, so long as you continue to subscribe.

Some of the games on this list are even top-tier titles, like Sea of Thieves, Senua’s Sacrifice, or any and all games from the Halo, Gears or Forza series.

And if any of these games are part of the Xbox Play Anywhere system, like Ori and the Will of the Wisps, you can switch over to play them on your PC or smartphone and continue your progress elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Xbox Live Gold is the online multiplayer aspect of Microsoft gaming, though there are a few other benefits to signing up.

The multiplayer aspect is the big part of Live Gold. Once you sign up, you’ll be able to form and join voice parties with friends, send messages and play online friends.

However, Microsoft also gives you the chance to download and play four additional games every month. Two of them will be Xbox One titles, and the other two will be backwards compatible games from the history of Xbox.

What Features Does Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Offer

The biggest and most well-known feature is that you get access to more than 100 high-quality games. You can play them on both the PC and on your Xbox console.

You can download these games to either of those devices. And itll be just like if you purchased them from the store. The only difference being that you only have access to them for as long as your subscription is active or as long as Microsoft keeps them on the roster.

In addition to being able to download all those games, you can also stream them to your Android smartphone using the cloud gaming feature. This will work on both mobile data and Wi-Fi. However, Wi-Fi will probably provide the most reliable experience.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also allows you access to new and upcoming Xbox games. And on the same day as release for the console no less.

But it doesnt stop there, because Microsoft has more to give. You also get special member discounts on games, in-game content perks, and free memberships to both Xbox Live Gold and EA Play. Xbox Live Gold is the monthly membership where you get at least one free game every month for you console. Plus it enables online play.

EA Play is kind of like Game Pass, but all the games are from EA. So you get access to titles like Madden, Need For Speed, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and more.

Xbox Game Pass Vs Ultimate: At A Glance

At first glance, Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate may seem to offer the same thing. And in many ways, they do.

Both are subscription services that unlock a variety of AAA and indie games for one low monthly fee. The major difference is where you can play these games, and what extra features are included.

Its also worth keeping in mind that there are actually three services here: Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The first is just for the Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X consoles. The second option is just for Windows PC games, and the third includes both and more. Much more, in fact.

What Are The Compatible Devices

You can access Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from your Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S console.

You can also access it from your PC, and from your Android smartphone or tablet if youre playing games in the cloud. All Windows PCs will be compatible so long as theyre running a more current version of Windows.

And the same thing goes for Android smartphones and tablets. As long as its a semi current phone with a fairly up to date version of Android, you can play Xbox games in the cloud through the Game Pass app.

Microsoft also expanded cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to iOS devices and PC. Access through those two device types was rolled out to users in a limited closed beta on April 20, 2021. Invites to test the service in the closed beta began rolling out on April 20 and continued to roll out to new devices over time.

Within the next few weeks, the cloud gaming service of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be available for Windows 10 PC browsers, Mac, and iOS outside of beta.

Is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Worth It

For anyone with a relatively small game library, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is an incredible value. Microsoft is pushing the service hard with its new consoles, and the pricing reflects that. Its easily the best deal in gaming.

That said, if youre someone who plays one or two competitive games online, its probably cheaper to buy the game and pay for Xbox Live Gold. Likewise, for PC-only gamers, Xbox Game Pass for consoles and Xbox Live Gold are useless for you.

For everyone else, though, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cant be beaten. The addition of EA Play in 2020 was the icing on the cake.
