Twitch Streaming Returns To Xbox Dashboard In New Update
Twitch streaming integration will be making a return to the Xbox OS dashboard in the newest update . This comes after the Xbox One’s Snap mode was removed in 2017, and with it Twitch streaming integration.
While Xbox streaming is integrated within the Twitch app, but until today’s update Xbox users had been left with no way to directly launch a Twitch stream from the dashboard. The return of this “Console Live Feature” is not exactly unexpected, however, as it was tested back in the Fall of 2021 via the Xbox Insider Program.
Now, Xbox users will be able to launch a Twitch stream without having to do so inside the Twitch app. In fact, Twitch streams can now be launched from the Xbox dashboard without the Twitch app even being installed on the console as long as a player’s Twitch account is linked. The feature can be accessed through the Xbox Guide’s Capture and Share tab.
What Goes Around Comes Around
Xbox users can once again stream to Twitch directly from the console dashboard, five years after Microsoft removed the feature.
Xbox announced the imminent return of Twitch integration in a blog post and promised that streaming Xbox games is now easier than ever.
Players simply need to press the Xbox home button, shift along to the “Capture and Share” tab, hit “Live Streaming”, and with just one further button press they’ll be live on Twitch.
An options menu allows users to edit the stream title, manage game and microphone audio levels, toggle party chat on and off, and manually set resolution and bitrate. The stream will automatically pause whenever the player switches games.
Microsoft removed Twitch integration from the Xbox One in 2017 in a bid to push its own streaming platform, Mixer, but despite a strong effort to draw people in – which included streaming powerhouse Ninja signing exclusivity to the platform – it was shut down in 2020 and its userbase shifted to Facebook Gaming.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said at the time that making Mixer successful was an uphill battle from the beginning.
Twitch streaming from the Xbox One or Series consoles has been possible in the meantime, of course, through the Twitch app, but Xbox promises this new integration is the best way to stream from the platform.

Consider Upgrading Your Audio Setup
The Kinect may have a microphone but for high-quality audio for your stream, you should use a separate device:
- The Xbox One Chat Headset: Owners of the original Xbox One will have received Microsoft’s own custom gaming headset in the console’s box. The Xbox One Chat Headset connects directly to the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter which plugs into any Xbox One controller. This headset records clear audio and is easy to use and can also be purchased separately by gamers with newer consoles, such as the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
- Other headset or microphone. Newer Xbox One controllers include a 3.5mm audio jack built into the bottom of the device under the d-pad. This jack can be used to connect any regular headset, earphones, or microphone from a heavy duty gaming headset to basic Apple EarPods.

How To Stream From Xbox One To Twitch
Even though computers are a much better option for gaming because you can play your favorite games in high resolution, consoles like PS4 or Xbox One still offer memorable gaming experiences. Unlike computers, gaming consoles let you stream on Twitch without having to use demanding broadcasting software products.
Setting up a live stream you want to share directly from Xbox One to Twitch is a simple process that won’t take too much of your time. We are going to take you through each step of the way, and provide you with all the information you’re going to need to start broadcasting live gaming videos to Twitch from your Xbox One console.
How To Connect Your Xbox To Obs Studio
The first step is to connect your Xbox to your PC and import the video into OBS Studio. For this, you’ll need your capture card and two HDMI cables. If you use an external capture card you’ll also need the USB cable it came with to hook it up to the PC.
Connect the HDMI output from the Xbox to the HDMI input on the capture card.
Connect the HDMI output on the capture card to an HDMI input on whichever display you want to play games on.
From the dropdown box, select your capture card.
This is the first step to using the output from your Xbox console with OBS. Depending on your capture card, the stock settings should be 1080p resolution at 60 FPS. But this only concerns the input to OBS Studio. To ensure you’re getting a good-looking output, you’ll need to do some tweaks to the settings. And depending on your capture card you may still be getting 4K and HDR outputs to your display.
The good news is that the way the Xbox handles audio means you won’t need to do anything fancy to ensure both you and your stream can hear your games. It’s more awkward on the PS5, but the only thing you need to do in OBS for Xbox is lower the capture card audio slider to make sure it isn’t drowning you out on the stream. The audio itself is pulled from the HDMI output on the console.

In order to set up your webcam, first make sure it is one that can be used with your Xbox system by checking the Microsoft support page.
You will be able to adjust the stream title, audio, and resolution all from the live streaming options panel. You can adjust audio here to allow party chat to be heard on stream, or even turn your game volume down if its a little too loud.
Further, if youre worried about sharing too much information on stream, a pause screen will block viewers from seeing all but your game when you are on your Xbox.
There you have it, thats how you can start streaming straight to Twitch from your Xbox console. For more, check out how to stream to Twitch from a PS5.
