The Xbox App Now Lets Pc Users Stream Games From The Cloud And Consoles
Microsoft introduces new ways to play Xbox games remotely
Following the latest updates to the Xbox app, Windows 10 PC users can stream Xbox Game Pass titles from the cloud and stream games from their home consoles.
With these new updates, you now can play some of your favorite console titles on a wide range of PCs, even those that dont have the specs required for certain PC titles, Microsoft said.
Xbox Cloud Gaming on Windows PCs through the Xbox app was first made available in August for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers signed up to the Xbox Insider programme. Its now available to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 countries.
To access the service, PC owners need to connect a compatible controller via Bluetooth or USB. Once the Xbox app is launched, users can select the cloud gaming button and choose a Game Pass title to start playing.
New stability updates allow for games to stream at 1080p up to 60fps, and add the ability to play select Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, which Microsoft called one of the most highly-requested features.
Xbox Cloud Gaming was made available to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on PC and iOS via web browsers in June.

Launching Games From The Xbox App
Once you’re streaming, you can launch games and apps from the Xbox One dashboard. The display that you would normally see on your television will still appear on the television, but it will also be mirrored on your PC monitor, tablet, or laptop screen. This allows you to navigate the Xbox dashboard, and launch games, as you normally would.
If you prefer to launch a game directly from your PC to get right into the action, that’s also an option.
Launch the Xbox app.
This will automatically connect to the console and start streaming if everything is set up correctly.
Fix Lag On A Wireless Network
As you play on your PC, there may be some lag depending on your Wi-Fi network speeds. One way to speed up a choppy stream is to use Ethernet instead, if thats an option. You can also use the Xbox Console Companion app to tweak the fidelity of the stream, resulting in a faster-moving picture, although at the expense of image quality.
- To access the drop-down menu, hit the menu button on the top-right part of the display, near the full-screen button.
- If you want to look at the granular details of the stream, like bit rate, bandwidth use, and more, click the button that appears near the bottom left part of the screen.
I dont use the Xbox Console Companion app on my PC too often, but it comes in handy when I want to play Xbox at the same time that others prefer to watch something else on the TV. Its particularly useful for slow-paced games where the speed of your inputs doesnt come into play, but I found it to be sufficient for games like Asuras Wrath, which relies on quickly completing events to make progress.

Connect Windows 10 To Your Xbox
The Xbox Console Companion app should already be installed in Windows 10. If not, get it from Microsoft. You should also have a controller already connected.
To stream the Xbox One to Windows 10, your PC needs to meet these minimum requirements:
- CPU: Dual-core or better at 1.5GHz or greater.
- RAM: 4GB or more.
- Network: Wired, or 802.11n or newer.
Step 1: Sign in to your Microsoft Account.
Step 2: Select Connection listed on the left.
Step 3: Click Add a Device toward the top of the app.
Step 4: The app searches for an Xbox console on the local network. Select the console to move on. If it doesnt appear, enter the consoles IP address and click the Connect button. You can find the address by following this path on the console: Settings > General > Network Settings > Advanced Settings
Step 5: Click the Connect button next to your listed console.
Step 6: With the two devices paired, click the Stream button located above your console. You may want to click Test Streaming first to see if there are any issues before jumping into a game.
You Won’t Need An Xbox To Play Microsoft’s Next Generation Of Games
Microsoft will bring games to Windows PCs on the same day they’re released on the Xbox One console.
Halo. Forza. Fable. Gears of War. These exclusive games are all potential reasons to buy a Microsoft Xbox One game console instead of Sony’s PlayStation 4. But soon Microsoft will offer the alternative of playing Xbox games on a PC.
Microsoft is merging its software for Windows PCs and for Xbox consoles. This means when you buy a game made by Microsoft or one of its close partners, you will be able to play it on either device. It could potentially change the way gamers buy and play games, because they won’t need an Xbox console to experience Microsoft’s latest hit titles.
Titles like the space-age shooter Halo have become some of the most sought-after games in the industry. Some people buy an Xbox just so they can play certain games. Making them available on PCs might bolster computer sales among consumers, and that’s a win for Microsoft whose software powers those computers.
Quantum Break will be released on Windows 10 and Xbox One on the same day in April.
That’s key at a time when Microsoft needs to convince the tech industry to support its Windows 10 operating system, which was released in July and currently runs on just 11.9 percent of PCs. Computer makers like Hewlett-Packard have blamed Microsoft for underwhelming PC sales.
Bringing some of the industry’s most popular games to Windows could make a difference.

Getting The Best Out Of Wireless
The original Xbox One console has a dual-band 802.11n component and can connect to the 2.4GHz or the 5GHz band.
The 2.4GHz band is great for penetrating walls and thick objects, but its also the default wireless connection for many devices in your home. This band is not only congested, but its also typically incapable of reaching its maximum theoretical speed of 144Mbps.
The 5GHz option makes for the ideal connection because its less congested and offers faster speeds. The flip side is that this band has a harder time penetrating solid objects, so it has a narrow reach. Its maximum theoretical speed is 300Mbps.
Meanwhile, the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles have a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 component. The theoretical maximum speeds are 867Mbps on the 5GHz band and 400Mbps on the 2.4GHz a big improvement over the original Xbox One.
In all cases, the local environment is a major influence on the connection speed between the Xbox One and the router in addition to the wireless connection between the router and the Windows 10 device. That said, the physical locations of both your Xbox One and Windows 10 PC in relation to the router are extremely important, especially if using the 5GHz band.
How To Play Xbox Games On A Phone Or Laptop Without An Xbox
One final, related option is Xbox Cloud Gaming, which streams games directly from the cloud rather than your actual Xbox. It works on both Windows and macOS , but you can’t get at it for free: You need Xbox Game Pass, which will run you $14.99 a month.
Note that this is separate from the games on your actual Xboxyour purchases and progress are kept separatebut it is one way of getting Xbox gaming working on Apple devices, without even having to buy an Xbox.

How To Stream Xbox One To Pc
The second, and final, step in streaming an Xbox One to a PC requires the Windows 10 Xbox app. You can if it’s not already installed on your computer.
The Xbox app is used to initiate streaming:
Make sure your Xbox One is turned on.
Launch the Windows 10 Xbox app.
Select the Xbox One icon on the left.
Locate your Xbox One in the list, then select Connect.
This step is only done once. If your Xbox doesn’t show up in the list, verify that it is turned on. If it is, and you still don’t see it on the list, you will need to find your Xbox One’s IP address and enter it manually.
This will initiate the stream. If nothing happens, select Test streaming to see what the problem is.
After this initial setup has been completed, streaming in the future is even easier. Just launch the Windows 10 Xbox app, select the Xbox One icon on the left, then select Stream.
If the Xbox One is off, you will first need to select Turn on.
With An Android Tablet
Users with an Android tablet can download Game Pass from their app store or install it via APK. However, on a tablet it is also possible to play through the web version via xbox.com/Play.
This does not mean that it is not possible to do it on a phone either, but on a tablet it is much more comfortable.
If you choose to play from the web version, you should consider that it only works in browsers like Chrome and Edge. Likewise, it is best to create a web app of the Game Pass version in the web version to access directly when you want to play.
