Microsoft Xbox Game Pass For Pc

Xbox Game Pass For Pc Finally Has A Sensible Name

Microsoft Xbox Game Pass for PC Initial Review and Impressions

There are three versions of Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription: Xbox Game Pass, which gets you console games, Xbox Game Pass for PC, which gets you PC games, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gets you access to both the console and PC libraries, plus the benefits of Xbox Live Gold.

It’s a little confusing. The sequence of words “Xbox Game Pass for PC” only makes sense if you accept the premise that all games are Xbox games, and some Xbox games can be played on PC. It’s like calling PC Gamer “Xbox Gamer for PC.”

In the Game Awards skit embedded above, Microsoft announced that it’s finally giving its PC subscription service a more sensible name. It’ll now be called “PC Game Pass.”

I already feel lighter after having typed it out once. PC Game Pass. Ah, much better.

I was able to accept that there’s an Xbox app on the PC, and that we had to type out “Xbox Game Pass for PC,” but only because Microsoft finally started putting all its Xbox exclusives on PC, which earned it a lot of goodwill after its various disasters, such as Games for Windows Live. But I didn’t like it.

Between this announcement and an appearance from Remedy’s Sam Lake, it’s been a decent Game Awards for me.

How To Share Your Xbox Game Pass Pc Subscription With Your Family

    1. Go to the Microsoft Family management page, and invite your family members to the group. Once they have accepted the invite, proceed to the next step.

Note: You can also add members from the Windows 10 Settings App > Accounts > Family and other users.

    2. You will need an active Game Pass subscription in your primary account.

    3. Sign in to the same account on the second computer. You can do this from the Microsoft Store app, sign out of the current account, and then login to your primary account.

    4. Open the Xbox app on your family member’s PC, click on the user-profile. If they already have an Xbox ID, have them sign in to it. Else, just create a new account for them.

That’s it. Now you and your family can access the same Xbox Game Pass PC subscription. If you have issues getting the Xbox app to recognize your subscription, close the app and open it.

You may want to go to the Xbox app’s settings and disable the option for buying without a password, to avoid unauthorized purchases. The Xbox app may display a notification that says your signed in account is different from your Store account. You can ignore the message , and play your games.

Please note that you cannot share EA Play with your family. This only works with the games in the Xbox library.

I came across this on reddit a few days ago.

Note: I don’t have an Xbox console, and cannot confirm if this method works with it.

Other Ways To Win Rewards Points

Until recently, Microsoft would send you a weekly email with the opportunity to win Rewards points by clicking through links, as well as the occasional hidden link which awarded even more. That seems to have gone away in favor of the expanded Xbox opportunities.

There are occasional crumbs hidden away, too. Microsoft Rewards extension for Chrome promises some additional points, and the Bing app for Android used to .

Access Game Pass Games On Pc Via Microsoft Store

Xbox Game Pass z kolejnymi hitami. Microsoft rozszerza ...

All of the PC games that are currently playable on Game Pass can be found in the Microsoft Store, Windows 10s app store, which is on every Windows 10 computer by default no extra installation necessary.

As I mentioned earlier, this is the slightly more confusing method for finding Game Pass games that work on PC. I recommend downloading the Xbox app listed above, but this option works if youre in a rush and dont want to deal with a download.

    • Open the Microsoft Store.
    • On the Store homepage, click the menu button on the top right section of the window, then select My Library to see all of the content that you own.
    • Look for Xbox Game Pass and click on that option. All of the games included with Game Pass will display.

Unfortunately, this view displays all Game Pass games, including ones that can only be played exclusively on the Xbox console. And there isnt a way to filter the view to make Xbox One games disappear.

Did I mention that the Xbox app for Windows 10 is just way better?

Microsoft Explains Why It Changed The Name Of Xbox Game Pass For Pc

Microsoft recently changed the name “Xbox Game Pass for PC” to simply “PC Game Pass,” and now the company has offered a little more insight into why it made the swap.

Microsoft’s Jason Beaumont said in an interview with ROG Global that calling it “Xbox Game Pass for PC” was confusing some members of the audience who assumed they would need an Xbox. That was never the case, and the new naming convention should help make that more clear, Beaumont said. What’s more, Microsoft was already referring to it internally as “PC Game Pass,” so this also helped the company make the change.

“It’s the same catalog of games. It’s always a sign when everybody internally calls something one name, but then externally, you’re calling it a different name . So internally, we were always like, ‘PC Game Pass,’ then finally someone was like, ‘Why don’t we just call it that?'” Beaumont said.

Microsoft officially announced the name change with a whimsical skit at The Game Awards, which you can re-watch above.

“We were hearing a lot from gamers that they were like, ‘Listen, people don’t understand that Game Pass has PC games…” People thought they needed to have an Xbox, Beaumont said. But this is not the case.

“We had this user confusion so it was like, just change the name. Make it straightforward. So PC Game Pass it is,” Beaumont said.

What Pc Game Pass Is Doing Right

I dont want to disparage Microsoft. Over the past two years, Ive seen PC Game Pass grow from an extra perk on Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions to a platform worthy of its own subscription. Its fantastic, and I want to see Microsoft continue building on what its already doing right.

Most games used to only come to the console version, but now its rare to find a Game Pass title that isnt on PC as well. EA Play is a great addition, too, allowing you to play a massive list of EA games on PC without a separate subscription .

Microsoft has clearly focused on expanding Play Anywhere, too. Halo Infinite, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon are a few recent examples of games Ive played across console and PC through Play Anywhere. This is a great program, and it demonstrates that Microsoft knows what enthusiasts with both a console and PC want.

Issues with bugs, disorganization, and quality of life issues wont go away tomorrow. And right now, some games are still exclusive to console, plus theres a long list of titles that dont support Play Anywhere. The difference is that Microsoft is constantly improving on the game front.

For almost three years, Ive seen the same bugs and issues time and again. Im not asking Microsoft to fix the Xbox app tomorrow, just to put a foot forward to ship new features, fix long-standing issues, and make the app feel more like a destination for PC gaming. That would do more for the service than a rebrand.

    Initial Unveiling And Launch

Prior to the official unveiling, a rumor had circulated that the next Xbox console would be an “always on” system requiring a persistent Internet connection, though Microsoft had not confirmed this. This had drawn some concerns from consumers, which were heightened when employee Adam Orth stated in a message in April 2013 that said, “Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an ‘always on’ console…Every device now is ‘always on.’ That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit”. Orth’s message drew further ire towards Microsoft, with concerns about and practices against the sale of used games with an “always on” unit. Orth opted to leave Microsoft a few days later due to the backlash. Despite Microsoft’s statements following the situation, denying the rumors, the mood it created lingered over the next several months.

In response to these pre-launch changes and a belief that Microsoft’s initial decisions for the console were in poor judgement, journalists and consumers jokingly gave the Xbox One nicknames such as the “Xbox 180”, in reference to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s decision to reverse its controversial decisions, and “Xbone”, suggesting that the company was “” to consumers by making these changes.
