What Services Does It Work With
- Apple iTunes
- Warner Bros.
Movies Anywhere has some major studios on board, but it doesn’t have everyone. Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM/UA are the biggest holdouts — that means no cross-platform Godfather, Indiana Jones, Kirk and Spock, Mission Impossible, Katniss Everdeen or old-school James Bond. You may not see some independent movies supported, either. That said, Movies Anywhere is designed as an open platform, so any studio not currently on board can theoretically join later, once licensing details are ironed out.

Microsoft is joining Disneys Movies Anywhere service this week. The software giants Movies & TV app on Xbox and Windows 10 will support Movies Anywhere, allowing you to access digital movies from services like iTunes, Google Play Movies, Vudu, Amazon Video, and more. This also means any movies purchased using a Microsoft Account on an Xbox or Windows 10 PC will sync to the Movies Anywhere service and be available on other platforms.Disney, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal, and Warner Bros. are currently supporting Movies Anywhere, so most titles will be supported by the service. Xbox and Windows 10 users can simply link their Microsoft Account to an existing or new Movies Anywhere account to sync purchased movies. Microsoft was one of the last major holdouts of Movies Anywhere, but Xbox and Windows 10 users will be happy to see the company finally support the service. Unfortunately, Movies Anywhere is still limited to just US consumers right now though.

How Does Movie Anywhere Work
Movies Anywhere is a new cloud-based movie streaming service that unites the purchases youve made on streaming services such as iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, and Vudu, and allows you to add supported films purchased on Blu-ray and DVD.
Can I watch Microsoft movies on VUDU? Movies Anywhere is a free service, and it has already supported movies youve purchased from Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, Google, and Fandango. However, Microsoft was a glaring omission.
Can you put small DVDs in Xbox One? As the successor of Xbox 360, Xbox One also comes with an optical drive that can be used to play back not only DVDs but also Blu-rays. Apart from that, Xbox One wont play disc due to a region code. Therefore you should first convert the DVDs to Xbox One compatible video formats.
Is Vudu part of Movies Anywhere? Watch anytime, anywhere with Vudu and Movies Anywhere. Create a free Movies Anywhere account and link to Vudu in seconds.
Your Mileage With Movies Anywhere May Vary
Around the TG slack, I’ve just discovered that interest in Movies Anywhere is strictly binary. You either love it, as I and one other do, or haven’t used it ever .
And I get that, in a way. Movies Anywhere is for the people who want to own their movies. The collectors out there. And when Netflix, Prime Video and the like all have more movies than we can watch as a part of our existing subscriptions, it’s going against the grain to want to pay to own a film.
But I love Movies Anywhere because I’m one of those collectors. Yes, the Criterion Channel is a great streaming service for discovering movies, but Movies Anywhere is the portable movie theater I always wanted.

Are There Any Glitches Or Issues
Since its October 2017 launch, Movies Anywhere has largely been a largely smooth experience for most CNET staff who have used it. That’s probably a testament to the fact that the underlying infrastructure from Disney Movies Anywhere has already been tried and tested. Once you set it up and link the accounts, supported purchases through any linked service — say, Amazon — tend to appear within all of the other linked services within a couple of minutes or so.
Every once in awhile, you may find a title that doesn’t seem to sync . If the problem persists, Movies Anywhere suggests unlinking and then relinking the service from which you purchased the title in question.
Movies Anywhere Is Now Available For Xbox Consoles
Movies Anywhere is announcing today that you can now get its app for Xbox consoles, including both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You can get it through the Microsoft Store now.
If youre unfamiliar with Movies Anywhere, its basically a synced movie collection. You can link your accounts from Microsoft Movies & TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies & TV, iTunes, Vudu Xfinity, Verizon FiOS, and DirecTV. Then, when you buy a movie on any of those services, it populates in your library on all of the other ones.
And yes, Microsoft Movies & TV did already work. That means that even though your Xbox didnt have the dedicated Movies Anywhere app, the service was still working with your Microsoft account on your Xbox. Now youll get the app, of course, where you can consume your Movies Anywhere library.
XDA VIDEO OF THE DAY
This is all a free service, of course. In fact, it used to be Disney Movies Anywhere, a way for you to keep all of your Disney movies together no matter which platform you were using. Then more partners signed on-board. But yes, in case you were wondering about it, this does only work with movies from partners.
These include Walt Disney Studios obviously including franchises like Marvel and Star Wars Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
The Movies Anywhere app is available now in the Microsoft Store on Xbox.

What Devices Does It Work With
Movies Anywhere has apps available for iPhone , iPad , Android, Apple TV , Roku, tablets, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Android TV devices. It also works on all major web browsers on Windows PCs and Macs. There are no dedicated apps for any Xbox or PlayStation consoles at the current time. But that doesn’t mean the game consoles are left out in the cold — see below.
Can I Really Watch Movies I Bought Through Itunes On An Android Or Roku Device Now
As long as the movie is from one of the participating studios, the answer is an emphatic “yes” — we’ve done it. The beauty of Movies Anywhere is that you never need to use the Movies Anywhere app after initially setting up your account. So, for instance, Xbox and PlayStation users can access all Movies Anywhere-compatible movies within the Vudu or Amazon apps on those consoles, even if they were originally purchased on iTunes. And you can watch many of your Amazon purchases in iTunes, too.
Of course, the recent announcement that AirPlay 2 is coming to many 2019 TVs means that iTunes will finally be less of an island. But Movies Anywhere works now — no need to wait for those new products.

Xbox Movies Anywhere App Finally Lets You Sync Your Films On Consoles
There are tons of legitimate and legal sources for streaming TV shows and movies these days that it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of all of them. Not all sources play nice with each other, of course, so you often end up juggling multiple apps simultaneously. Movies Anywhere attempted to bring order to the House of Mouse, but its reach didn’t include all entertainment devices. That changes today with the introduction of the Movies Anywhere app for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, turning the consoles into true one-stop shops for most of the movies you might have purchased.
Formerly called Disney Movies Anywhere, the service aimed to be a single point of access for movies brought from different sources or platforms. You could link accounts from Microsoft Movies & TV, Google Play Movies & TV, Apple iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu XInfinity, and more. Any movie you buy from any of those services will show up in Movies Anywhere, so you can watch them on whatever device the app supports.
Until today, those devices included only mobile, computers, and select smart TVs. Consoles, however, have become true all-in-one entertainment centers, and the Xbox Movies Anywhere app reinforces that image. And since Movies Anywhere doesn’t charge for anything, you theoretically have access to more than 8,000 movies.
Movies Anywhere Is Now Available On Xbox
After expanding to Samsung TVs earlier in the year, Movies Anywhere, the service that allows you to keep your digital film collection in one place, is now available on Xbox consoles. Starting today, you can download the app on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Movies Anywhere works with most digital storefronts, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu and of course the Microsoft Store.
The Xbox version of Movies Anywhere includes support for the platforms Watch Together feature, which means you can take part in online watch parties with up to nine other people and talk in a shared chat room. Screen Pass is also supported. If youve already accepted a rental invitation sent to you by a friend or family member, you can watch the movie on your Xbox. Moreover, once you connect your Microsoft Store account to Movies Anywhere, you can watch the content you purchase there on any other device that supports the platform.

Does Movies Anywhere Support 4k Or Hdr
Yes. You can watch 4K and HDR movies using the Movies Anywhere app on many 4K HDR streamers and TVs . Note that the app currently only supports HDR10, not Dolby Vision, and that it doesn’t support 4K HDR downloads.
You can also use other apps and devices, like iTunes on an Apple TV 4K or Vudu on a 4K-compatible Roku, to watch 4K and HDR movies. Some apps and devices enable you to watch in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, if the rest of your system supports it.
iTunes on Apple TV 4K lets you watch in 4K and Dolby Vision.
Movies Anywhere Digital Locker Service Is Now Available On Xbox Consoles

Overall, the Movies Anywhere app provides access to over 8,000 digital movies from The Walt Disney Studios , Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. On Xbox consoles, the app supports 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, 5.1 Surround and Dolby Atmos spatial sound, making it a solid alternative to Microsoft’s Movies & TV app.

Anything Else I Should Know
- Like any “free” service, Movies Anywhere — and the supporting streaming services — are collecting and collating data based on your usage and viewing habits. Take note of the end-user licensing agreements and permissions when you sign up and connect accounts.
- Playback from Movies Anywhere syncs between your Movies Anywhere apps. So if you stop watching at one scene on Roku, you can pick right up on your Galaxy Note 8 or iPad, for instance.
- It takes anywhere from one hour to several hours for movies to cross-propagate between services. Be patient, especially during initial setup.

The Movies Anywhere app is now available on Xbox One, Series S and Series X game consoles. While the service was already available to download on a number of different platforms and devices, the latest Microsoft support provides users with another way to access their collection of movies and show episodes on their preferred devices
Movies Anywhere can be a useful service and especially for those that tend to purchase digital copies of movies and shows. Essentially, the service acts as a bridge to allow purchases from different digital stores to be accessed through the same single app. With support for Apple TV, Prime Video, and Google Play among others, it is a good way to bring purchased collections from different apps together through one service.
Along with the support for Microsoft Movies & TV, the service now also supports Xbox Series X and Series S consoles as well as the Xbox One, with the app available to download from the Microsoft Store. As a result, owners of any of these game consoles can now install the Movies Anywhere app on their game console and access all of their digital catalog without the need for any additional devices.
