Add Your Gaming Source
The first thing you will want to add to your scene is a gaming source — the source that displays the game you’re playing. There are three different sources you can use to do this: Game Capture, Window Capture and Monitor Capture.
To add a source to your scene, make sure the scene is selected and right-click inside the box. Click Add and then choose the type of source you want to add.
Game Capture captures the feed from a single game. It’s the only source that will capture games running in full screen mode, but it can occasionally be unstable.
Pick out the game you want to capture for your Twitch stream here.
Add Game Capture as a source, name it and choose the game you want it to capture. The game must be open for OBS to see it if you don’t see your game, make sure it’s open and click the Refresh button. Game Capture only supports DirectX 8, 9, 10, 10.1, 11 and OpenGL games.
Window Capture captures the feed from a single window — this could be a game , a Web browser or any other program/app. Window Capture is more stable than Game Capture, and works with all games , but will not capture a game running in full screen mode.
You can also choose to capture a specific window.
Monitor Capture captures your entire monitor. It’s not very efficient if you’re running Windows 7 or older, and it will not capture games running in full screen mode.
Monitor Capture allows you to capture your monitor’s image.
Who Should Use A Dslr Webcam
Aside from Skype calls to chat with friends or video conferencing for interviews and meetings, there are many uses for a webcam. These include:
- Content creation
- Taking passport photos or profile pictures
- DIY baby monitoring
- Home security system
With these uses, high-quality images are crucial and can make your content or pictures look professional and improve the viewing experience.
If you are sick of grainy and unreliable photos and videos from your webcam, switching to a DSLR could allow you to take the next step in your online streaming career.

The Kinect sensor or any webcam compatible with the Windows OS can be used to capture the footage of you commentating on the game you’re playing, but Kinect is still your only option as webcam if you want to broadcast live streams on Twitch. However, if you’re sharing your videos to Microsoft’s Mixer live streaming platform you can use any Windows compatible webcam.
If you want to use the Kinect Sensor on Xbox One S or Xbox One X you’ll have to get the Kinect adapter since the sensor is only compatible with the original Xbox One. As we already mentioned, the Microsoft’s gaming console lets you record audio while broadcasting, and you can either use the Xbox One Chat Headset that connects directly to the controller or a third-party microphone or a headset that can be connected through a standard audio jack.

Select Content You Can Generate Regularly
Because consistency is key when it comes to streaming, the best way to do it is to try to stick to a schedule as much as possible. If the content you want to create doesnt let you stream regularly, its best to avoid streaming that type of content. That is, of course, if you dont plan to add some other type of content to your portfolio that can fill in the gaps.

Before you start, make sure your Xbox One and Windows 10 PC have the most recent system updates installed.
Open System > Settings.
Select Preferences > Xbox app connectivity.

Either Allow connections from any device or Only from profiles signed in on this Xbox must be selected. If you share your network with other people, the second option is more secure. Selecting Don’t allow the Xbox app to connect will prevent streaming.

How To Stream On Twitch From Pc
Most commonly, people stream on Twitch using their computer. Unlike consoles or mobile/tablet devices, computers can be used for everything from music production to gaming. Computers, however, are also arguably the most demanding in this department.
Before going out there and starting your first stream, there are some requirements to consider. First of all, youre going to need a solid internet connection. Ethernet connections bring faster and more stable network performances to the table, compared to Wi-Fi. Keep in mind that most modern laptops dont include an Ethernet port , so expect that youll need to buy an adapter for this.
Youre also going to need broadcasting software. The best available option for this is Twitchs Studio app. This app isnt perfectly stable yet, as its in beta at the moment. Its also currently only available for Windows devices. If you are a Mac user , its recommended that you use OBS or Open Broadcaster Software .
Chromebook users will have to install a different OS to stream on Twitch, at which point your Chromebook is no longer a Chromebook.
Then, there are certain hardware requirements to keep in mind. Most laptops are equipped for streaming in terms of hardware. Still, were talking about the minimum performance here.
As your account grows and you start earning on Twitch, youll want to invest in upgrading your streaming room.
The desktop PCs dont typically come with a webcam and a mic by default, so these arent even an option here.

Problems With Native Gaming App Streaming
While a streaming app can be an easy solution for someone looking to jump into a stream without any additional hassle, it has its setbacks.
Games on PlayStation for example can sometimes block streaming and recording entirely. Many companies, like Atlas and Bandai Namco , have included in-game functions that stop their titles from being streamed after a certain period of time.
Theres no real way to tell which parts of the game will be cut either, and streamers often find out the hard way. Theres also no way to disable it.

What Type Of Hardware To Use When Broadcasting On Twitch
You dont need the latest generation of CPUs or the newest model DSLR to broadcast on Twitch. The platform isnt on the leading edge of video quality it doesnt support 4K streaming as YouTube does so you could conceivably get away with lower-quality gear.
However, the one obstacle many Twitch content creators face is, when broadcasting a video game, encoding and gaming can be too much of a burden for a computers CPU. So you cant just start streaming on Twitch with any kind of gear. You need a CPU powerful enough to handle it. Lets look at gear one at a time.

Each has a built-in game-broadcasting function, allowing you to stream gameplay to your friends list and server, respectively.
I find Discords streaming ability to be ingenious, as you can share any screen or application at any time, and theres very little delay. All you have to do is hit the share button in the bottom left corner of the app, or, when you have a game open, press the dedicated button that appears with the games title. Friends who are in the voice channel can easily pop in to your stream, and you dont need OBS or anything else to operate your broadcast.

How To Use Your Dslr As A Webcam
If you are an aspiring YouTube star, Twitch streamer, or just someone who enjoys creating video logs that only you and your friends will ever see, you need a webcam to create the footage.
Most laptops and PCs come readily equipped with webcams nowadays, but anyone who’s used them understands that the quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Sure, the images are there, but you’re very clearly filming on a webcam, while a DSLR should be something to consider. If you’re unsure about how to use your DSLR as a webcam, you’ve come to the right place.
While most modern webcams have come a long way since their initial inception in terms of video quality, they are still miles behind even the most entry-level DSLR cameras on the market.
For many people, 720p resolution is excellent, but if you’re a content creator, you, your loyal followers, and curious viewers want to see high-quality 4K resolution. Using your DSLR can make that possible.
The Value For Money Is:
One of the sayings goes, you get what you pay for.. Buying something for the lowest price is almost never a good idea. Therefore, buying an expensive product with no real value isn’t a good choice at all. The key to evaluating the value of your streaming camera for twitch is to evaluate what you’re getting for your money.

Connect And Set Up Your Devices
You can use any regular webcam with an Xbox One, and you can also use external microphones and headsets. Connect everything to your Xbox, and make sure the microphone and webcam are enabled in the settings. Youll also want to fine-tune some other settings, so go to Settings > Account > Privacy and Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details and Customize, and then:
- Go to Game Content and allow the You can broadcast gameplay and You can share content made using Kinect or another camera options.
- In Online Status and History, select Everybody under Others can see if youre online.
Its also worth noting that the only way to stream video from an Xbox One to Twitch is with a Kinect. The console and Twitch app do not support external cameras, so if you dont have a Kinect, your stream will have to be audio and gameplay only.
