Setting Up Your Console
Before we continue explaining how to play Xbox games on your phone, lets first set up your console to enable streaming capabilities in the first place. The method is the same for both current- and last-gen Xbox consoles, as they share the same interface.
With your Xbox turned on, press the Xbox button on the controller and head to the Profile & System tab. Select Settings and press A.
In the Settings menu, go to Devices & connections and select Remote features. Ensure that Enable remote features is checked and then set the Power mode to instant-on. This will let you remote control the Xbox console while also making it boot faster.
Stream Xbox Games To Your Phone Or Tablet
For on-the-go Xbox gaming, download the Xbox app for your Android or iOS device, sign in, and connect a controller to your phone. An Xbox One controller will do nicely, especially paired with a foldable clip, though you can also use mobile controllers designed for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices like the Gamevice.
From the Xbox app on your phone or tablet, tap the Connection icon in the upper-right cornerit’s the one that looks like an Xbox with radio waves coming out of it . Tap the console in question, then choose Remote Play on This Device to start a remote session. Remember, the closer you are to the router, the better your experience will be over Wi-Fi.
Note that the Series X may have one or two quirks at this time as well, though in my experience it can vary from game to game. Forza Horizon 4, for example, currently has a bug when streaming from the the Series X where moving the joystick also presses the corresponding D-Pad button. Other users report audio crackling when streaming with the latest Xboxes.
While it is now physically possible to stream from your new console to a mobile device, it hasnt been perfected yet. Hopefully, Microsoft and developers will continue to improve the experience as they roll out more streaming support for the Series X and S.

Step 3: Tap the My Library icon. It resembles a stack of books.

What You’ll Need For Xbox Remote Play
- A compatible phone or tablet: That means an Android device with version 6.0 or greater installed, or iOS 10 or above. You’ll also need to make sure your Bluetooth settings are compatible, but this shouldn’t be a problem if your phone is relatively modern.
- An Xbox Series X | S or an Xbox One console: This will need to be plugged in at home and connected to the Internet in order to work
- A compatible Xbox wireless controller with Bluetooth: You can use the standard Xbox controllers, but lots of people like to use clip-on controller cases that you can slide into your pocket and attach to your phone. We’re fans of the Nacon MG-X, which can expand and contract to fit your phone case and includes all the standard Xbox controller buttons. This means you can also keep using the touchscreen.
- The Xbox app : Grab this from your app store of choice. It will also give you tons of ways to manage your Xbox data, from screenshots and friend requests to new installs and downloads.
- An Internet connection: Preferably a fast one with at least 10Mbps

Some But Not All Game Pass Games Are Included
This is only for a subset of a subset of your Xbox library. Games I’ve bought and downloaded individually, from Cyberpunk 2077 to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, are not included, only games from the Game Pass library. That library adds and removes games on a regular basis and not every Game Pass game is there, but a good number are. I’ve seen Outriders, Gears 5 and Doom Eternal, plus smaller indie games such as Subnautica and Outer Wilds.

Xcloud Gaming: The Prerequisites
Here are all the requirements that you need to qualify. Please make sure to go through them:
Thats all the requirements that need to be met from your end. If you tick mark all of them, there here are the steps to play Xbox Games on your Android phone using XCloud Gaming.
Is My Internet Connection Strong Enough
To unlock the full potential of playing Xbox games remotely on your phone whether youre playing on Xbox app or via Microsoft xCloud you may want to consider your internet connection. You dont want games to be constantly lagging and cutting out. A strong connection is therefore essential.
Private wifi is likely to be the most secure option if you go round someone elses house, you shouldnt have any problem playing online, providing they have decent broadband. Public wi-fi may be a little bit more temperamental depending on where you play. In hotels where lots of guests are sharing wi-fi, you may find it a struggle to stay connected.
If you want to use your data, make sure that youve got a good mobile coverage plan. A 5g connection may be necessary particularly when using xCloud. Playing Xbox games on your phone is also likely to use up a lot of data, so consider a high or unlimited data plan. You can compare various networks here at . Better data and coverage will come at a higher price, so be wary of this.
When logging onto public wi-fi, consider using a VPN to keep your network secure. There are a range of VPNs out there to choose from its worth doing your research to find one that is trusted and affordable. You can read about the benefits of VPNs here.

Head To The Xbox Console Companion App To Find Your Xbox
On your computer, download the ‘Xbox Console Companion’ app. It’s worth noting that this is different than the ‘Xbox’ app. Once you have it, choose the ‘Connections’ tab from the sidebar it’s second from the bottom and uses a minimalistic picture of an Xbox console.
Clicking it will prompt the app to look for local Xboxes to connect with. Choose yours from the menu that comes up! Note that it will only appear as long as your Xbox and your computer are using the same WiFi network.
Connect An Xbox Controller
Remote play is exactly like using your console in the regular way, it’s just streamed through a secondary device. This means that touch controls won’t work, so you’ll need to pair your iPhone or iPad with a controller.
There are plenty of unofficial pads that do the job, but to get the best experience, it’s better to use an official one. To connect an Xbox Controller, you’ll first need to ensure your device’s Bluetooth is on and searching. To do this, head to Settings > Bluetooth, then switch it on.
Next, turn on your pad, then hold the connect button to the top of the pad until the light at the front flashes. The two devices should then automatically connect.
If you’re using your home Wi-Fi to play in a different room and usually use the pad with an Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X console, you might find this also automatically switches on the console, so keep an eye out for that.

This only works with digital games. If you have a physical game, you have to insert it into your Xbox Ones disc drive before the console will begin installing it and downloading any necessary updates.

Like , cloud gaming via Game Pass Ultimate doesn’t actually run the game on your Android device. Your shiny new Pixel 4A is a wonderful phone, but it doesn’t have the horsepower to run a game like Gears 5 without melting into a puddle of steaming slag. That’s where Microsoft’s streaming technology comes in. The game actually runs on a server farm somewhere far away, and the video feed is streamed to your mobile device. It’s like playing a game by remote control, but the console or PC that powers it is outside your house.
