Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Performance

HALO 5 Xbox Series X Gameplay 4K 60FPS

Over the past 12 and a bit months since the PS5 and Xbox Series X launched there have been a suite of cases where one is better than the other in certain games.

The Xbox Series X has more overall power to play with but that doesn’t always mean it performs the best. Similarly, there PS5 has the faster SSD, but that doesn’t mean there’s much of a real-world difference in loading time between the consoles.

What we can say is the PS5’s exclusive games look utterly stunning with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal being some of the most visually striking games around. Horizon Forbidden West also looks incredible on the PS5, though it’s also a PS4 title.

The Xbox Series X doesn’t have any true exclusives dedicated to the platform, as all Xbox first-party games are available on Windows PC as well.

But it has Forza Horizon 5, which looks stunning and runs very well. Halo Infinite might not look as good, but it’s still striking and can run up to 120 frames per seconds, which isn’t something we see with many PS5-dedicated games.

In short, both consoles both perform extremely well, although the PS5 has slightly shorter loading times overall. You won’t be disappointed in the performance of either.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Backwards Compatibility

Both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X have excellent backwards compatibility features, but theres no denying that the Xbox reaches further back into Microsofts library. Not only is the Xbox Series X compatible with just about every Xbox One game its also compatible with many Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. While it doesnt include every stab Microsofts ever taken at backwards-compatible games , its an impressive effort with zero friction.

The PS5 can play just about every PS4 game on the market, but compatibility doesnt go back any further than that, unless you count its PlayStation Now streaming service for PS3 games. Still, its not quite the same as playing games you already own directly on a console.

Most recently, a new patent application filed by PlayStation designers hints that the PS5 will someday be able to run PS1, PS2 and PS3 games but we’ve got no time frame on when that might come to pass.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Controller

Another area in which the Xbox Series X plays it safe, to its credit, is in its controller. The Xbox Series X controller is nearly identical to the Xbox One model, save for textured grips and shoulder buttons, an improved D-pad and a new share button in the center.

Its a smart upgrade for one of the best controllers ever made. Still, the fact that it runs on AA batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable unit feels positively archaic, and also pasts a lot of cost onto the end-user, whether they choose to buy AAs or rechargeable packs.

The PS5 DualSense, on the other hand, is a big departure from the DualShock 4, with a two-tone color scheme and much bigger grips. It also adds a variety of new features: extremely sensitive haptics and a built-in mic among them. The haptic feedback is impressive, mimicking the feel of objects rolling around in a box, or putting up realistic resistance when you push a trigger. However, the DualSense still has a ton of wasted space , and the haptics have the potential to take you out of the game as much as they immerse you in it. As an aside, If you’re pondering the PS5 DualSense vs DualShock 4 debate, the new controller comes out on top for sheer innovation alone.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Buy Now Or Wait

Halo 5 Isn

Ever since the two consoles launched it’s not been easy to find a healthy Xbox Series X restock or PS5 restock. And while the situation is perhaps not as dire as it was 18 months ago, you may still need to weigh up which console to dedicate your time to in hunting down.

Both machines have their merits, but for our money we’d chose the PS5. That’s simply down to there being more cross-generation games for the Xbox Series X and how a lot of the current best Xbox Series X games are also available on Windows 10 and 11 PCs. So if you have a powerful gaming PC, you can afford to skip the Series X, whereas a PS5 will give you access to exclusives like Deathloop, Gran Turismo 7 and Returnal.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Verdict

While both consoles are off to a strong start and show significant room for improvement, the Xbox Series X seems like a slightly better investment for the moment. With more powerful hardware, a better design, a more comprehensive game subscription service and a delightful controller, the Xbox Series X has the early lead in the next generation of consoles.

Still, the PS5 has some virtues that the Xbox Series X does not. Theres a full-featured digital console, a more inventive controller, a faster SSD and this is not to be understated a better selection of exclusive games.

From having used both consoles extensively over the last few months, my gut feeling is that they have more similarities than differences, and whichever one you get should be more than sufficient to power your gaming for the next few years. Of course, you could always just build a gaming PC but thats a different story.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Cloud Gaming

Cloud gaming isnt a huge issue for either the PS5 or the Xbox Series X, since you can simply download games and play them natively on either platform. But as cloud gaming grows over the next few years, its good to know where each company stands at the outset of this console generation.

The PS5 has PlayStation Now, which lets you stream a variety of PS3 and PS4 games to your PS5 or PC. You can also download certain PS4 titles. It costs at least $8 per month, and doesnt work on mobile platforms.

The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as discussed above, costs $15 per month, and lets you stream games to Android, Windows PCs, macOS machines, iPhones and even the the Xbox Series X, Series S and Xbox One themselves.

With this comprehensive suite of cloud-based streaming the Xbox Series X is the winner here,

Halo 5 On The Xbox Series X Will Have Faster Loading Times But No Dedicated Upgrade

ByHeather Waldpublished 26 October 20

Halo 5 won’t be getting a fully optimized upgrade for the Xbox Series X, but it will have faster loading times and “consistently higher resolution gameplay.”In a recent Halo Waypoint update , 343 Industries confirmed that Halo 5 won’t be getting the same optimizations on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The Master Chief Collection is set to come to Microsoft’s next-gen consoles with an enhanced upgrade that will see it running at 4K at 120fps on the Xbox Series X and 1080p at 120fps on the Xbox Series S. It will also feature cross-generation play, improved split-screen, and faster loading times.”After we announced the enhancements that MCC would be getting on the Xbox Series X / S, we did see questions rolling in about how Halo 5 would play on the new consoles,” Halo community manager John ‘Unyshek’ Junyszek writes. “While Halo 5 is not getting the same optimizations for Xbox Series X and Series S as MCC, owners of the next-gen hardware are still going to see the benefits of faster load times and consistently higher resolution gameplay.”Plenty of upcoming releases and current-gen games are counted among the Xbox Series X upgrade games, with free updates set to take the titles to the next-generation with optimized graphics. A number of titles will also be making use of the hardware’s Smart Delivery feature, which enables you to play the games on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Halo 5 on Xbox Series X Feels Like a Whole New Game..

Guardians of the Xbox One X.

Halo 5: Guardians was a marquee Xbox One game when it released back in 2015, but it has come back into the conversation as one of the platform’s highlights with its Xbox One X enhancements. As they always do, Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry did a full-fledged analysis on how the games runs, from its resolution and visual effects to how the framerate holds up.

The game uses dynamic resolution scaling to make sure it maintains a consistent, silky-smooth 60 frames per second. Unfortunately, this meant sub-1080p resolution on the original Xbox One during most scenarios. The result was an often blurry image that obscured the finer details in the game. However, the Xbox One X enhancement negates most of that compromise.

While Halo 5 does hit full 4K , dynamic resolution means the game won’t run a constant resolution since the target framerate remains 60 FPS. However, author John Linneman says, “Halo 5 does a much better job in sticking closer to its optimal pixel count, with smaller skirmishes and less crowded areas all delivering native 4K.” The game adjusts the pixel counts of the X and Y axes individually, and Digital Foundry was able to record resolutions like 2816×1584 and 3360×1890.

Xbox One X Enhancements For Halo 5 Detailed

Here’s how the Xbox One game makes use of the extra horsepower.

Microsoft’s Halo 5: Guardians is among the more than 130 Xbox One games that is getting or already has been updated to take advantage of the Xbox One X’s power. Now, 343’s studio head for FPS games, Chris Lee, has revealed more specifics about how Halo 5 leverages the power of the console.

In an interview with the Xbox Wire, Lee said the Xbox One “provides a ton of additional power.” Specifically, the level of detail on elements that are further away are increased. And if you have a 4K TV, you may notice a “ton of detail” on things like characters, weapons, and vehicles, beyond what you would see on a 1080p set.

“From the materials and stitches on our Spartan’s gloves to operator instructions on the ARs all the little details really shine,” Lee said.

He added that that Halo 5’s campaign and multiplayer see benefits on Xbox One X, especially in more intense things like the Warzone mode and larger campaign maps. Additionally, load times are “significantly faster,” Lee said.

“The amount of visual detail that pops in 4K, from the texture of your Spartan’s glove holding a Magnum to the crisp details of the world of Sanghelios, really adds to the overall feel of the game,” Lee added. “The amount of detail that players didnt know was there will be a nice surprise.”

Halo 5 Is Not Getting A Dedicated Xbox Series X Upgrade But It Will Have Faster Load Times

The Master Chief Collection is getting 120fps/4K support, but that won’t be the case for Halo 5.

Microsoft has confirmed that it has no plans to release a dedicated optimization update for Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox Series X or Series S as it’s doing for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

While there won’t be the same 120fps/4K optimizations for Halo 5 on the next-gen consoles, Halo 5 will enjoy faster load times and higher resolutions overall thanks to the power of the new machines. It’s the only game in the main series that will not be available on PC, with The Master Chief Collection containing the first four games as well as Halo Reach.
