Destiny : Beyond Light

Best Games On Xbox Game Pass

Destiny 2 is one of the best games-as-a-service titles out there. From its grand story to its great gunplay and mechanics, Destiny knows how to make you feel like a hero while keeping challenges at just the right level of difficulty and addictiveness. As a Guardian of the Light youll be tasked with exploring the solar system, fighting hordes of aliens and sometimes facing off against other players too!

Beyond Light marks a great time for first-timers to jump into the shooter, with content designed to bring new players up to speed quickly though the latest expansion is also sure to delight any returning fans, too.

Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition

  • Approximate Game Length: 10 Hours
  • Genre: Third-Person Shooter
  • X|S Enhanced: No
  • File Size: 44 GB

The Gears of War franchise is emblematic of third-person cover-based shooters with a heavy emphasis on cooperative gameplay, but at this point, the original titles are starting to really show their age. This is what makes Gears of War: Ultimate Edition a fantastic get on Game Pass it gives players a chance to experience the series roots with a fresh coat of paint and some great quality-of-life improvements. The graphics have been generally enhanced, enemies can be spotted, and weapons can be switched during mad dashes from cover to cover. But aside from these improvements, this Ultimate Edition lets players take a peek at the beginning of Marcus Fenixs journey and reintroduces the chainsaw-action of the series staple weapon, the Lancer. What more could a Gears fan want?

Upcoming Games Launching On Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft gives us updates on games heading to Xbox Game Pass a few weeks before those games become available, usually twice a month. However, Xbox and ID@Xbox events toss aside this expectation to announce a flurry of games that are hitting Xbox Game Pass day and date, meaning they’re launching into the service when they land on Xbox platforms. That means day one access to all of these games for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, including some of the best upcoming Xbox games.

Many of these games are far enough out that they don’t even have a release date, and we’re not certain exactly which platforms they’ll come to through Xbox Game Pass. Still, this list in our Xbox Game Pass guide will give you an idea of what to look out for in the future of Xbox Game Pass. We’ll constantly update this list as we get new information about release dates, when games become available, and what platforms are getting them.

Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night

Ugh, I love Metroidvanias. I especially love them when theyre themed after Castlevania. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the long-awaited game from Koji Igarashi, former Castlevania series director. Originally started as a Kickstarter project, the game was quickly funded and fans waited in excited anticipation.

And Ive got to say, Bloodstained lived up to all the hype. Although youre not playing as a member of the famed Belmont clan or even Draculas dhampir son, the story is no less compelling. Playing as Miriam, one of the last living Shardbinders, you enter a massive demonic castle to save the world from impending doom. As you traverse the castle, youll fight all manner of abominations, but dont worry, youll get plenty of weapons and supernatural abilities to beat back the denizens of darkness. And similar to other Castlevania games, theres more going on than meets the eye.

If you have one, I highly recommend playing this game on a 4K HDR TV or display. Its just that pretty.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Official Xbox App Walkthrough | Xbox Game Pass PC
  • Approximate Game Length: 15 to 20 hours long
  • Genre: Action-Adventure
  • X|S Enhanced: Yes
  • File Size: 50 GB

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderis the best lightsaber game of the modern era. Developer Respawn lovingly combines heavy exploration , with a more nuanced battle system in the vein of God of War or Dark Souls. The game takes place in the fallout of Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, and puts players in the role Cal Kestis an untrained Jedi Padawan. With subtle touches like using Cals lightsaber as a flashlight or customizing its hilt, Fallen Order feels like a 21st-century love letter to the Star Wars toys and action figures of decades past. It’s also a fantastic action-adventure game. Read our review here.

Best Xbox Game Pass Pc Games In 2021

Here are the best games on Xbox Game Pass for PC

Theres no better time to dive into the best Xbox Game Pass PC games than when youre stuck at home.

For those who are unaware, Xbox launched Xbox Game Pass for PC as a service you can either pay for separately from Xbox Game Pass or bundled with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It works just like the original Xbox Game Pass, letting you download all available games for free as long as youre in the service. Xbox Game Pass for PC costs $4.99 for the first month then $9.99 per month after that. Youll frequently find Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on sale.

There are more than 100 PC games on Game Pass for PC and you’ll find games regularly coming and going. Also, check out our piece about why Im not worried about Xboxs lack of exclusives. We just reviewed Halo Infinite, which didn’t live up to the hype.

Recently, we fully reviewed the Xbox Series X, so if you want to know whether or not it’s better to play on your current PC or a next-gen console, check out the Xbox Series X review. In no particular order, here are the best Xbox Game Pass PC games you can play right now:

The Bards Tale Iv: Directors Cut

The Bards Tale IV is a dungeon-crawler RPG of the oldest sort. Bypassing the silly The Bards Tale action-RPG , The Bards Tale IV traces its roots back to the earlier entries of the series and delivers a game that looks new but feels solidly retro.

Developer InXile Entertainment has been updating all kinds of classic franchises , so its no surprise they handled this sequel well. Whats more interesting is how much like the older games it can feel at times!

Dragon Quest Xi S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age Definitive Edition

How to cancel an Xbox Game Pass subscription on Xbox One ...
  • Approximate Game Length: 70 Hours
  • Genre: JRPG
  • X|S Enhanced: No
  • File Size: 31 GB

Dragon Quest XI follows a silent protagonist and his band of merry friends as they explore impressive vistas and small towns in a typical JRPG fashion. Unlike the modern Final Fantasy games, Echoes of an Elusive Age sticks to the traditional turn-based battles of yesteryear. Yes, Dragon Quest XI is still an aggressively traditional JRPG, but that doesn’t stop it from being a first-class game and a must for any fans of the genre. Square Enix has been iterating on the Dragon Quest formula for three decades, and it shows. It’s hard to imagine a more polished and complete package than Dragon Quest XI. Read our review here.

Xbox Game Pass New Games For January 2022

  • Weird West – January 11
  • The Anacrusis – January 13
  • Windjammers 2 – January 20

There are three games confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in January 2022 at the time of this writing, though they will almost certainly be joined by many other titles that have yet to be revealed. Microsoft typically announces the new Xbox Game Pass games coming in the first half of the month around the 1st, and then the second half is announced around the 15th, give or take. This means that it will still be a couple of weeks or so before Xbox Game Pass subscribers know all the games coming to the service in the first half of January, and about a month before they know about the titles hitting the service in the second half of January.

In the meantime, there are three games already confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in January, and all three are daye one titles. First up is Weird West, launching for Xbox Game Pass on January 11. Weird West is an action-RPG from WolfEye Studios, a company comprised of former Arkane developers that worked on critically-acclaimed games like Dishonored. Weird West takes its cues from classic Fallout titles, so it should be of interest to fans of those games. What’s been shown so far has certainly looked promising, and it will be interesting to see how the final product turns out.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is undoubtedly one of the greatest games ever made, which is why it is still relevant and highly playable even after 10 years since its release. Skyrim is one of the best role-playing games for both beginners and experts of the genre, making it a perfect game to have on the Xbox Game Pass.

It is difficult to see how exploring Tamriel will ever get old, which is why Skyrim has been re-released on multiple generations of consoles, including the Xbox Series X. Despite its immersive world and vast map, Skyrim can be streamed with the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, making the game even more accessible to new players than it already was.

Zombie Army : Dead War

  • Approximate Game Length: 12 Hours
  • Genre: Third-Person Shooter
  • X|S Enhanced: Yes
  • File Size: 67 GB

Zombie Army 4: Dead War provides an intense, yet humorous look at what history would be like if Hitler opened a portal to hell and allowed the zombie menace to infect Nazi soldiers. While the story is not by any means a great narrative achievement, the game is fun to play, especially with a friend at your side. Tactically eliminating zombies one by one is a strange delight that can feel more methodical than frenetic at times. Even when a group of undead is shambling towards you, more often than not, you stop and pick your shots. Zombie Army 4: Dead War is a solid game for zombie fans, and if youre looking for that kind of straightforward experience, you wont be disappointed.

Games Leaving Xbox Game Pass

The seven games leaving Xbox Game Pass this December feature some of the best titles that have been a part of the service so far. While there are a lot of fan-favorites and major releases that come to Xbox Game Pass almost all the time, not all of them maintain fanbases to the extent that titles like Destiny 2 have. The silver lining for some fans though, is that the titles replacing these seven games are among some of the most anticipated games of 2021.

Still, the departure of the following games means that Xbox Game Pass subscribers only have a limited amount of time left to enjoy them through the service. With roughly two weeks left to enjoy all except one of the titles leaving Xbox Game Pass for December, subscribers should take time before the middle of the month to try and enjoy some of these games:

  • Destiny 2 December 8
  • Beholder December 15
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan December 15
  • Guacamelee! 2 December 15
  • Wilmots Warehouse December 15
  • Unto The End December 15
  • Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair December 15
