Months Of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate For $1

XBOX Series S | Cheapest Next Gen Gaming Console | Comparison With PlayStation 5

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate normally costs $14.99 per month, but right now new customers can get 3 months for only $1. The sheer amount of value you get with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is impressive. This membership gives you both Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass for PC. Xbox Live Gold is required for online gaming. Xbox Game Pass gives you access to a huge library of games that is free as long as you maintain your membership. The list includes AAA games that you can play as early as launch day. These include Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Sniper Elite 5, Farming Simulator 2022, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and much more.

The Scalability Of Xbox Series S

The value proposition of the Xbox Series S is largely bolstered by its lower price, despite its ability to still play next-gen games at lower resolution. However, there’s an important middle-man that ultimately decides if a game runs well on the Xbox Series S: the game’s developer. Because the Xbox Series S has a comparatively less intense graphics card than Xbox Series X, games will need to have their graphical fidelity scaled down to match the capability of Xbox Series S. The difference in power between Xbox Series X and Series S definitely isn’t just a difference in resolution size.

The problem lies in developers, and whether the development teams decide optimizing a game for both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is worth the investment. As much as Xbox would like to promise that developing for the Series X and Series S is as flexible as developing for PC, the truth is that optimizing a game for two console environments instead of one still requires plenty of extra leg work. The “scalability” of Xbox Series S is open to interpretation, some developers have praised the console, some developers have criticized the optimization process for the console. This is certainly not a 2020 problem, but this could be an issue a few years down the line as more ambitious games are made.

How Much Worse Is Xbox Series S Than Xbox Series X

According to a leak cited by The Verge, the rumoured Xbox Series S specs include “7.5GB of usable RAM, a slightly underclocked CPU speed, and around 4 teraflops of GPU performance”.

For comparison, the Xbox Series X has 12 terfalops and the PS5 has 10.28, which means the Xbox Series S will be quite far behind its next-gen console peers in this regard. And if you’re wondering what is a teraflop, it’s a techincal term that equates to how much data a console or PC can compute.

Even the Xbox One X has 6 teraflops, which makes it sound like the Xbox Series S will be a little less capable than Microsoft’s current generation of high-end consoles. That doesn’t sound too appealing, does it?

However, the Xbox Series S will have an SSD – something that the Xbox One X lacks – which means it does have some upgrades. The SSD could well mean faster loading times and seamless moves between worlds… but wouldn’t most players rather save up a bit more to get the full next-gen experience with the PS5 or the Xbox Series X?

      New Games Old Hardware

Xbox Series S | The cheapest way into next-gen gaming

Microsoft has said you wont have to buy new hardware to enjoy its upcoming first-party titles because many of them will also come to Xbox One. Heres how Xbox chief Phil Spencer described the companys approach back in July, where he said that every Xbox Game Studios game in the next couple of years will be playable on the Xbox One.

You wont be forced into the next generation. We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. Thats why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of yearslike Halo Infinitewill be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We wont force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.

And if youre more of a PC gamer and dont own an Xbox One, then Microsoft also typically releases its major titles there as well, and it says it plans to continue this policy this year.

Microsoft has promised to bring Halo Infinite to PC and Xbox One as well as its new Xbox consoles.

There are some caveats you should be aware of. First is that these promises only cover Microsofts first-party titles, aka those published by Xbox Game Studios. Microsoft isnt making any promises about how other publishers like EA, Ubisoft, or Activision will handle their new games.

      What Are The Drawbacks

While we would absolutely recommend the Xbox Series S in most gaming situations, there are a handful of drawbacks. It should be noted clearly that the S is an all-digital console, meaning the only place you can buy games is via the consoles online store. That said, if you dont have top-tier internet, this may not be the console for you.

      Halo Infinite

Also, the Series S does have SSD storage, but it only comes with just 512 GB of space. When combined with a service like Game Pass, that likely means youll be deleting games from the console on a pretty frequent basis. After installing about three titles, youll have to start conserving space. Thats really annoying, but if you have fast enough internet, the disadvantage is easy enough to overcome.

Lastly, while the CPU may be the same between Series S and Series X, the GPU is of a lesser value to the tune of 4 TF on the S compared to 12 TF on the X. Thats a pretty massive gulf numerically, but in practice its not a huge deal. If you’re okay with playing games at somewhere between 1080p and 1440p resolution instead of 4K, the Series S will serve you just fine. Having played the system on a 4K HDR TV for the past year, I personally dont feel like Ive made much of a concession, and that super-fast CPU means youll still mostly get 60 fps performance from your games on either machine. Cuts are made for the Series S, but theyre so surgical you may not notice the difference.

Xbox Series X Vs Series S Vs Ps5

The difference in power generally means early Series S and Series X games run at different resolutions but often perform similarly. For example, Watch Dogs: Legion targets 4K at 30fps on the Series X and 1080p 30fps on the Series S, and both support ray-tracing for better-looking reflections.

Similarly, Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon run at 60fps at 1080p on the Series S, compared to 4K 60fps on the Series X.

The Perfect Balance Between Power And Price

One of the first things the average consumer will likely notice about the Xbox Series S is its $300 price tag, $200 less expensive than the premium Xbox Series X and disc-based PS5. Even the PS5 Digital Edition is still $100 more. While most gamers have become conditioned to this idea that lower-priced items are inherently worse than their more luxurious counterparts, thats simply not true of the S, which has the same price tag as the Nintendo Switch base model and the Oculus Quest 2 VR headeset. And yet, its so much better in terms of hardware.

Believe it or not, the main guts of the Xbox Series S are actually mostly identical to that of the Series X. Both systems have the exact same Zen 2 CPU thats four times more powerful than the Xbox One X, and both systems feature ultra-fast solid-state storage that allows top-tier games to load and stream data faster than ever before.

Those two features inside such an affordable chassis offer the main components of a next-gen gaming experience suitable for a wide array of budgets, and, especially when playing this seasons hottest games, you dont feel as though youre making any concessions having gone the cost-effective route.

      Forza Horizon 5

Games like Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite look and play just like fans may have seen in trailers, which is made all the more impressive considering how tiny the unit itself is. The Xbox Series S defies conventional wisdom by offering a product that is both powerful and affordable.

Xbox Series X Vs Xbox Series S: Price

Xbox Series S Design and Price Official

The Xbox Series S’ price is one of only a few categories in which it definitely beats the Xbox Series X. Simply put: the Xbox Series S costs $300, whereas the Series X costs $500.

You can make plenty of arguments about how the Xbox Series X does more to earn its price, or how “price” and “value” aren’t the same thing, or how the Xbox Series S might not be as useful in the long-term. But for right now, the Series S is $200 cheaper than the flagship Xbox, and that might make a big difference, depending on your budget and your current entertainment setup.

Of course the Series S is also a lot easier to find, with restock issues still hampering Series X availability despite all the time that’s past since its release. For that reason, anyone looking to buy a next-gen console might well agree that the Xbox Series S is the right console to buy right now.

Xbox Series S Vs Xbox One S: Price And Release Date

Both the Xbox Series S and Xbox One S come with similar price points, though we expect Xbox One S pricing to drop dramatically as time goes on. The Xbox Series S retails for $299 / £249 / AU$499 and is the cheapest next-gen console available.

The Xbox One S has been out for some time now, making its debut on August 2, 2016. Its price held steady at $299 / £249 / AU$499, but could often be found for much cheaper. However, because Microsoft ended production of all Xbox One consoles back in 2020, the Xbox One S isnt widely stocked anymore beyond second-hand retailers.

Xbox Series S Gets Right What Xbox All Digital Edition Got So Wrong

The Xbox Series S is going to be $299, small, and it will play all Xbox Series S games. This is how you make a cheap, attractive, modern console.

Last year I was quite disappointed when Microsoft revealed the Xbox One All Digital Edition. Rumors were circulating around for months that we were going to get a cheaper, digital-only version of the Xbox and my mind began to raise at the possibilities.

With project X-Cloud on the horizon at that time and Xbox Game Pass really getting into its stride, it seemed like a very cheap, very portable, version of Xbox One could be a huge seller.

Well, the Xbox One All Digital Edition wasnt any of those things, it was pricey, it was no smaller than an Xbox One S, and it gave consumers very little reason to grab one unless they were simply desperate to save $50.

There was nothing exciting about that console thankfully Microsoft has remedied that problem with the newly announced Xbox Series X.

New 42 Lg Evo C2 4k Oled Gaming Tv

For many of you who have been patiently waiting for the LG Evo C2 42″ 4K OLED TV, now you can rejoice. The majority of the 2022 Evo C2 lineup had been released earlier in the year, but for whatever reason LG had decided to hold off on its new 42″ size until now. This highly anticipated TV is finally orderable on Amazon and ships immediately. The 42″ replaces LG’s 48″ as its smallest 4K OLED TV on the market. It performs just as well as its larger sized siblings as a gaming TV, but where it really shines is as a gaming monitor for your PC.

Xbox Series X Vs Xbox Series S: Verdict

10 Things We LOVE About The Xbox Series S

There’s no denying that the Xbox Series X is the more powerful of the two systems, and the better investment, if you can afford it. However, there are a few circumstances under which an Xbox Series S might still be a smart buy.

The “secondary console” case described above carries some weight. If you have a 1080p TV and no plans to upgrade anytime soon, the Series S is the way to go and when you do get a 4K TV, it’ll still be a good stopgap system thanks to upscaling.

Otherwise, get the Xbox Series X, even if you have to put off your purchase and save up for it. With more powerful hardware and better physical media features, it’s more future-proof and versatile than the Series S. Yes, $200 can buy a lot of games, but you may only be delaying a more expensive purchase a few years down the road.
